Dean HardTails Revisited

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

The feel is the best thing about the Dean Hardtail's. The neck is so smooth and that moulded heel joint is sublime. All of the curves and carves have a purpose. The way it sets against your body is otherworldly. Be careful, if you rub the neck too much the experience becomes sensual in nature......and then anything can happen. I've had to clean up afterwards..........

LMAO is on other post. . . what is the purpose of the lip around the perimeter of the guitar (that was a tactile experience)?
And while you're captive, how are the wider frets going to affect training my short fingers?

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

I think the lip around the perimeter is designed to funnel as much beer to the outer edge of the guitar as quickly as possible. When you try this, and I know that you will, notice that the beer will pool up against the carved lip, allowing you to sip up a large portion of your spill.... thus reducing beer spill losses while keeping moisture away from the sensitive electronic parts.

As for the jumbo frets, I think you'll quickly learn to prefer them. It doesn't take as much pressure to fret notes and there is something about the way that jumbo frets feel when you slide up and down the neck. ******, there I go talking about sliding and that neck again.....

I never used the words slurping or old in my post. You are making assumptions and putting words in my mouth there XX.

I'm a little irritated with trolls hiding behind anonymity blaming you for something I said.
That's ok. I know who. That's 2 demerits, bubba.

I, ME, TEXRED, TANIA, SAID THOSE THINGS. GOT A PROBLEM? PM ME, OH PLEASE, PM ME.

XX. what a chicken. or a beneficiary of jeff's good graces.
I SAID THAT STUFF, ME, TEXRED, AND IT WAS A JOKE, DUH

Jeff didn't say that I DID.

And I was LMAO

Without context, how can you judge an ongoing joke between 2 people?

Especially in the middle of the night.

And, what is the point, anyhow? Trying to grow 2 inches?

I am really confused now. I was just trying to make a silly joke about the old and slurping thing. Its 5am and I haven't slept. I'll have to look at this tomorrow.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

Exactly. US is just part of the serial number. May be a bit confusing but it does say Korea right next to it.

Seems most of the fingerboards are nice and dark and smooth. But they are Rosewood, not Ebony. Look closely at the grain.

It would help id the guitar better if you post pics and the serial number. If it starts with US, the next 2 numbers are probably the year. I've done some recent research on razorbacks. I have digital copies of catalogs for most of the years 2000+.

Wiki needs your help if you care. It's pitiful and 100% unsubstantiated.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

Anyway, BTB: J put the pot/tuner covers (did I say that right?) on because they were better than what was there, poor old thing (not Jeff-you gotta watch what you say, apparently). So, eventually when I replace them with chrome, do they have certain specs, or are those things miraculously fairly universal?

Took good pictures today, but still can't figure upload. So I tried photobucket. Can't figure that out either. I'm gonna email them to a victim and YA'LL do it. It's my birthday and I really don't want another headache.

Went to W&W and got great one of a kind strap. All black with braided chevrons; 3.5" wide and padded < $30-birthday discount!! I love that place.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

USA Hardtail production started in late 2001/early 2002. However, I have never seen a 2001 serial number. I have a 2002 USA, #132 made. 02 10132. That's how all the USA models are numbered.

I can't recall exactly, but I think Korean models came out around 2005 or so. The one you have is certainly no older than an 08'/09' model. The specs on the Korean models are very similar to the USA models. Obviously the mahogany back and maple top are of different quality. The USA has an ebony fretboard and the Korean model has a rosewood fretboard; so you have rosewood. However, it was an exceptionally dark piece of wood to begin with. I condition all of my fretboards with gun oil, and I treated yours right before I shipped it. Gun oil helps the wood stay dark and protects it from drying better than anything I have found.

You've listed all the other specs...22 jumbo frets, 3x3 headstock, graphtec nut, TOM bridge and Dean designed stop tail. I'm pretty sure the hardware is chrome however. Dean pickups on the Korean models and I believe they are ceramic, but not terrible. The coolest part of the guitar is the molded heel joint. It makes the neck feel almost like a neck through.... even though it's set. The most comfortable necks I've found.

If I forgot anything or if you want to know something specific about it, just holler at me. The Korean Dean Hardtail's are one of the better guitars to come out of Korea. The quality is superb and they're excellent guitars.

57 is my favorite number BTW.

What gun oil are you using on fingerboards?

Hi. Doesn't seem Jeff is around too much, but he'll surprise you. I have HardTail he's talking about, couple little things, I've got it stock. I don't know what brand, but I'm sure any decent gun oil would be ok. I haven't had time to post pics-just took some great ones.
This is one black guitar. I even asked him if fretboard was ebony. No bursts, no pickguards, just black, chrome, and abalone. And silk, somehow.
Oh yeah-I found out anything starting with E in s/n was build in Korean Worldwide HQ. This one is 2007.

I don't see anything wrong with Hopper's. How embarrassing. Hopp's? I haven't had a gun in a few years.

Unfortunately, not all gun oils are created equal. Some are just glorified Crisco with a scent thrown in. I'm looking at you, Froglube.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

Ballistol ...

Edited to add a disclaimer. Ballistol is actually used by people on unfinished wood. But it will tear up nickel plating (because it eats the copper underneath). That said, I was joking when I mentioned it. I've never used it on fretboards and personally wouldn't do so. I wouldn't want it anywhere near nickel plated parts.

Which it ok? My rosewood is black and so is guitar. Seller told me gunoil. I'd like to keep it thatway.

'Gunoil' usually means Tru-Oil, which is intended for use on gun stocks, not for lubrication. It's a thin form of varnish, and feels (IMHO) similar to tung oil.
