hi. first of all, please excuse my lack of caps and question marks. my keyboard is out; i am typing using my mouse, and i have not yet figured out how to get caps. [for the title, i copied and pasted.]

at any rate, i have found a z professional in a small local shop. i like it a lot. it comes with a hard case. an s.d. dimebucker has been put in, but the original pickup is included.

the price seems good to me at about 600 bucks after tax, with a little buckle rash and an extra dimebucker. i.e., the amount of guitar for the money seems good. but in doing my online research, i have found no pricing info for the pro series, list, retail, or used. i am tempted to get the guitar, but i want to make sure i do not overpay in relation to the used market value, so i thought i would ask the dean experts here. what did they cost when new. were these painted in the u.s.a. is the lacquer acrylic [seemed like it might be when i played it].any thoughts. thanks in advance.

the s/n starts w/ 04. then a space followed by more numbers. i assume that means it is an '04.

You're right about one thing, there ain't a lot of info on these.
I googled dean pro & of everything I saw, the cheapest price I found was $899.
Without doin some serious research, I don't know how to advise you on this.
If the new price was $899 though, I could see it going a little cheaper than $600, maybe

Great guitars made for Dean by USMasters. They came with Duncan 59N and JBBs in them. I have a Z Pro. They were made for about a year and a half from 2004-2005. $600 for really well made USA guitar is a good deal. Case?

That is the Dark Trans Cherry he has pictured. They are Satin finished. Killer V cut necks too. Got mine out of the case since my earlier post. :headbang:

well...i got it. 599.51 out the door with ohsc, original bridge pickup in the case, and a dimebucker in the guitar...and two sets of new strings. it's the satin purple/brown color, as pictured; i think it is named rosewood. i found out that they are apparently making them again [i assume so cuz i saw a new sunburst v pro in guitar center today], and they retail for about 1,350. mine is from '04. it has some notable cosmetic wear, and the truss rod cover is not original, but the guitar is solid. seems like a hell of a guit-fiddle for the money.

nice to hear that the stock pickups are duncans. aesthetically speaking, this thing is begging for that original pickup to be put back in; the finish on the stock hardware is cool. anyone interested in a dimebucker in good shape with its matching dimebucker mounting ring for 55 bucks shipped...drop me a line.

Congratulations, I saw the V Pro at guitar centers site when I googled yours yesterday, great looking axe btw.
A great price you got yours for, with case.

already found a good potential buyer for the dimebucker. my co-worker just got an ml-x cheap, so he is thinking upgrades...

also, i said earlier that the truss rod cover is not original, but it is. i thought otherwise because it has just one screw, but it turns out this is stock.

all i plan on doing is to put the original jb back in, to change the controls to v/t/t instead of v/v/t, to install a graphite nut slotted to suit the splayed strings, and to polish the frets and oil the fretboard. two of the pots are really scratchy too, even after cleaning. i'll probably replace them all with these 1 meg linear taper cts pots that i have here. i hope that selling the dimebucker covers the cost of the nut installation.

They are not making this model again but there are similar things out that are close. Dean has a new series made in Korea called the Chicago Standard Series. No belly cut and more like the old Flame Series Dean had in the late '70s and early '80s.

The V, ML, and Hardtail models were available in the Pro Series. There is a Natural Hardtail at the Tampa Guitar Center like my finish. IIRC it was under $500 or right around there.

i cannot find any mention of it from dean or on mf/gc websites, but i sure did see a new sunburst v with the same satin hardware, same knobs, and same type of satin finish yesterday. the tag said dean u.s.a. v pro. not sure what is up with that. it was definitely not used or 8-9 year old stock that had been hanging there all these years. it was near pristine, and the sunburst wasn't an option back in '04/'05.
