just went to a guitar shop and i saw the Schenker pickup. i look up at Dean guitars site and saw there were others such as the Vinnie Moore pickup. i was sooo tempted to buy the Schenker pickup. anyone have experiences on these Dean USA pickups?

they sell for about 110 USD here in my country. a bit jacked up compared to MF or other guitar stores.

Re: Dean USA pickups

I've had experience with a few of the Dean USA pickups.

Baker Act, Nostalgia, Time capsule, Dime Time, Lights Out, Mountain of Tone.

Baker Act: great pickup, I don't know what other pickup to compare it to, its just great thats all I can say.

Nostalgia: Bridge position one, sounds pretty much like a JB with a bit smoother highs

DimeTime: it sounds like someone took a '59 and put a ceramic magnet in it and put it in the neck. great pickup as well

Lights Out: if you've ever played the Older Dean USA schenkers that had the custom Schenker Dimarzios in it. they sound exactly like that.

Mountain of tone: sounds very close to the old DMZ megadrive. Articulate, hot, Gritty, great dynamics, cleans up real well too. its THE BEST of the Dean USA Pickups i've played. if you wanna try this one out, try to find a dean Leslie west signature soltero. thats the pickup that comes stock in it. :)

funny though, there aren't any USA Deans at the shop i went to. there maybe some at the main branch, mostly are offshore made Deans. and there are only two USA pickups for sale. i saw the Dimetime too, a bit pricey like the Schenker pickup.

Re: Dean USA pickups

yea, where you live they will be fairly pricey. honestly, I think you'd be just as good buying a DMZ or a Seymour Duncan if they're cheaper, pretty much all the dean pickups are a copy of something thats already out by DMZ or SD.

and I forgot to add that the Time Capsule, sounds almost exactly like a super distortion.

first thing that actually came to my mind was that those Deans were mainly copies of DMZ and SD pickups. just wanted some opinions.

Re: Dean USA pickups

Yup. :)

all except for the baker act. and idk how to describe that pickup, its actually closer to a custom 5 than anything, but its still got quite a bit of difference.

well, i nearly bought the Schenker pickup. it was sort of an impulse decision, but i decided on the Tone Zone. :omg:

Re: Dean USA pickups

BAker Act is Florida legislative slang for being forcibly psychiatrically evaluated.

Re: Dean USA pickups

This is what I don't get: if these pickups are so good, why they don't just put them on all their guitars?

They do come in all the US models now, technically, you can order whatever you want as long as it's a US

If they put them in imports, they would never catch up with making them and that would also require all imports to be routed to Tampa to have pups installed

There would be no time to make US guitars

The Schenker bridge pickup (to my ears) sounds like an Airzone, the Tone Zone should be close only with more mids.

Re: Dean USA pickups

Actually Dean is installing them in the Korean guitars too. Dont know if it is all imports or just the upper level models. I have two custom wound Dean pickups in my Dean Goldtop V and two sets of Time Capsules. One set is in a Mahogany Explorer body that has an all Maple neck, BADASSS!!! The V smokes!!! I need to get into doing clips but my livingroom noodler skills might do me in.

YMMV......

Re: Dean USA pickups

the packaging was a bit disappointing. it comes in a carton box, with some kind of foam inside, unlike Duncans and Dimarzios which come in hard plastic cases.

looking at the Baker Act:
-Alnico 5
-4 conductor
-17.3K

and the Tone Zone:
-Alnico 5
-4 conductor
-17.31K

i suppose the Baker act is close to the tone zone? and based from the clips, it's a bit bassy and middy.

I forgot about the DOA V (which is a wicked guitar for an import) Gene but that is a limited run. I don't recall any other imports coming with the Dean DMT's but I don't really track imports

Re: Dean USA pickups

Splittails and Solteros from Korea have been coming with USA pups IIRC. I will talk to BRG and ask him.

Hey Gene,

Don't forget the signature models that are made in Korea.

1. MAB-2 has the HWS (neck), the new single coil SCVH (middle) and the Baker Act (bridge).

2. Leslie West signature has the MOT.

Re: Dean USA pickups

Even tho it is a limited issue, I wanted to say that the DOA 2009 Soltero will have the MOT in the bridge and I think a time capsule in the neck.. Cant wait to try the MOT..
