Death

Re: Death

Valvestates are great sounding amps. I have a VS100 that sounds just as good as my buddy's JMC 900 side by side. There is a preamp tube in the Valvestate so they are a bit warmer than your standard solid state amp.

Re: Death

I'm going to have to find one. I love his sound. So tight.

The are very inexpensive. I got my VS100 100w/60w x 12 combo for $200. I picked it up to have something light and powerful for jam sessions and it exceeded all expectations.

Re: Death

I had a Valvestate VS8080 1x12 combo that I loved. My friend had the AVT series that I didn't like as much. White Zombie used some Valvestate stuff on the astro creep album i believe. They were good sounding amps.

Re: Death

My first big rig was an VS100 8100 through a 4x12 boosted with a DOD eq pedal. I wasn't a Chuck fan and hadn't even heard Death.
I also hadn't heard of boosting before and just came up with that approach my self.
My pickups were weak back then, so the boost helped with sustain, definition and attack.
Chuck used XN2 in his guitars so didnt use or need a boost .

I used a Marshall® Valvestate 100 watt head going through a model 1960A cabinet with Celestion® Vintage 30s in it, and that was killer. For effects, I used a Digitech® Whammy, an old Ibanez® chorus, and I also used a Line 6® Pod Pro for a lot of my effects as well because it has a wide variety of effects that I really like. I used the Pod for all of the clean parts with effects. The dirty stuff was straight Marshall with the chorus and Whammy.

Re: Death

The Windsor does the JCM800 thing well and I usually put an SD1 in front of it. It just doesnt have the versatility of a 2 channel amp no matter how much you play with the guitar volume knob. The Krank sounds great but its a one trick high gain pony. Anyways, after a few beers last night I bid on one on ebay. lol

Re: Death

I had an AVT20 about 10 years ago. I'd heard it was a great practice amp for metal but I was never able to turn it up very loud so I didn't get to hear it's full potential.
