For a grand I would look around used for a decent half stack.

5150, Mesa recto, Marshall JCM800. Keep in mind none of them will do everything flawlessly, real amps don't do that unless you want to sacrifice tone or $4000 more.

my suggestion would be any amp that u feel comfortable with and get a line6 POD..

Add me to the list of recommending the Vox Valvetronix series. Great amp, great features and the most important, great tones for a modeler. I had an AD60H for a while and loved it for what it was. The tuner alone with spoil you. Belive me when I say that you won't be dissapointed with it.
