Decent ES-335 copy?

I've played the Epiphone version the other day and just didn't like it.

Anyone know of any decent alternatives, hopefully one I can get in a similar burst?

I know Agile makes a ton of 335 copies to choose from, so what'd be closest to the actual 335 neck profile, as I'm unsure of what it's considered. Wide, thin?

What should I be looking for? (Besides a Gibson, obviously. :D )

Old Ibanez, Grecos and Yamahas can be top notch and not too expensive. Prices fluctuate.

Ahhh, yeah, forgot about those. What do you think I'd be able to pick one up at around? I'm guessing around $300-800, last I checked.

I played a very good Tokai 335 copy a couple years ago, it was one of the newer ones that they're making. The Epi Dot is a solid little guitar once you ditch the pickups. . .

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

Well, I already know Tokai's are gonna be out of my range, thanks to the price of all Japanese guitars going through the roof.

The Edwards model of ES335 I was lookin' at a few years ago that was $800 is now asking $1300 on Ebay. I could PROBABLY find a used Gibson for that price!

I'd love to find an older Ibanez copy, so I'll get to scouring

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

Er, can I ask, exactly which Epiphone semi-hollow model did you try? There are several variants available, some costing a good deal more than others. I am not going to pretend that any of the SE Asian guitars is on a par with the American article but it is hardly fair to compare the most basic Dot Studio with either the BB King Lucille model (one of which I own) or a genuine ES335.

The neck profile issue is tricky. There is no definitive Gibson ES Thinline neck shape. I found the neck of my Epi Lucille unpleasant until I matted the polyester finish. This made it thinner, less lumpy and more grippy.

Ibanez Artcore is a good option but also try a Cort Source. They are very good quality ES335s for ~$500
