Decent ES-335 copy?

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

The Hamer is decent, and I've heard the Washburn HB35's are nice.

I love my Sheraton II !!!!

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

i thought the Epi Dot sounded real decent on my engl and the BB King. The pinch harmonics were screaming like dammm. I going to get one someday!!:) nice thick tone.

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

I've played the normal Dot and that's about it. I'm not too keen on owning anymore signature guitars and the sheraton isn't what I'm looking for.

I'm looking to something that's really geared towards being more of a cheaper 335 copy. No bells, whistles or anything fancy, just a decent copy that sounds good on its own, so when I upgrade the pickups, I already have a great basis platform.

Again....very major kudos for the Ibanez Artcore AS73 335 copy.....Love this guitar!

I dunno if the Viking is for you then--it has a maple neck and the ebony composite fretboard, so overall it's brighter than most 335's

That being said since I've played one I've yet to come across any epi or ibanez that caught my attention... except for the new lennon Casino but in the end i still want the Hag

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

Bright's not too bad. It's too 'woody' and thin sounding is what I'm worried about. I'm of the opinion that bright and thin are two different things--one much more use-able than the other.

Yeah, I've only played a handful of good Epis and the majority of them were made in Korea.

But I 100% agree with you on the Lennon Casino. If I had the cash for one of those, I don't even know what I would do. I'm not even a Beatles fan, but that guitar is smokin'.

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

Those Xaviers look fantastic, especially for the money. So does the Ibanez. I've never played an Xavier, and the only Ibanez I had was a mid 70s doubleneck so I can't comment on those guitars, but I do own an Agile Les Paul and although it's not a hollowbody, their HBs are attractive in price and their pickups get good reviews, although compared to a Duncan, they aren't in that league.

Do a search for as-820 and as-1000. They have weird horns, but they are great guitars.

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

+1 to the Washburn HB35. I got mine a few months back and Its an all around great semi-hollowbody. Mine is maple neck, back, sides, and flame maple top. Rosewood Fretboard, Split Block Inlays, Grover Tuners. I recently got a set of Pearly Gates that will be going in soon. Brand New with Free Shipping for $549 on Ebay or get one used in the $300-$400 range.

Acoustically my HB35 is warm with some chimey highs. I was comparing it to a Sheraton and I opted for the features of the HB35 (toggle switch is on the upper bout like a Les Paul and the input jack is on the side of the HB as opposed to the toggle near the tuneomatic bridge and input jack on the front of the Sheraton).

Nice looking guitar!

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

Thanks Dali !!! I remember when you posted your thread of potential semihollow's. I see you opted for the Sheraton, Great Choice as well !!

Pics? Lets see em.

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

I played a very good Tokai 335 copy a couple years ago, it was one of the newer ones that they're making. The Epi Dot is a solid little guitar once you ditch the pickups. . .

Don't discount the Tokai's that are made in Korea, I've got a 335 copy loaded with Seth Lovers and its a cracking guitar. Very versatile.

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

The Hamers really are killing me. $350 for some on Ebay really doesn't seem like it can get beat.

Are they MIK, MIC? What's the story on those?

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

The Echotone is (was) made in Korea.

The XT series Echotones are made in China.

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

Ok, here is the Epi! I actually get her back from the luthier tomorrow. I had a Gibson Classic 57+ put in the bridge and a Pearly Gates in the neck. New pots, switch, jack, etc... I tried to do it three times and at one point I think I broke the microwave so I decided to let a pro do it. Can't wait to get her back!

Re: Decent ES-335 copy?

Man that Sheraton looks nice. That Tokai is something else, though, you half killed me with that one.

Hearing that those are made in Korea is great for me--Korean guitars are something else in the world of decent guitars for cheap.
