Decided on this instead of the Ibanez Pat Metheny model!!!

Re: Decided on this instead of the Ibanez Pat Metheny model!!!

congrats
enjoy - i am sure you will

its funny though - i have played all 3 guitars you mentioned in this thread - the GB, the PM and the PRS ... they sound nothing alike (so the right answer is buy all three :D )

the PRS will be most versatile for sure ... will adequately cover essentially anything but the most twangy country and the most blistering metal ... the PM and the GB are closer to each other with the PM being a little more 'present' - both are obviosuly stellar for jazz ... i still jones for a blonde gb10 with flatwounds - i have since i saw the cover of 'breezin' ... getting to play george benson's gb-10 and gb-20 backstage at his show a few years back was a real treat to remember (courtesy of the SDUGF's own larrytech)
If I were going to add an Ibanez to the collection it would be the metheny model. I love his tone!!!Well his phrasing too. I know I have heard that even though the PRS was aimed at jazz players it is very versiatal. Great but all I am concerned with is jazz tone, though admitedly I am going to try it through some distortion as I bet those 5310 pickups are gonna be awesome in that context as well!!!

Well I decided on a different guitar same model, better figured back. The picture of the front makes it look more orange but it is actually red! This baby is in my possesion now. The neck and back back look even better than waht this photo shows here.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand?

Oh, it sounds horrible, plays like crud, is ugly, NOOOTTTT!!!! THis is the nicest instrument I have ever owned!! The set up on it is neart perfect with no adjustments needed. The neck is not as thick as I was expecting but still very comfy. As for tone, AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!

I have tried it briefly through some gain and it sounds like it might be the best distotion tone I have heard, maybe even better than the Carvin. Then again it is different so maybe two deifferent but equally awesome guitars through distortion, I will have to put it through it's paces with distortion to really give you an idea about how it performs.

I have played it more through the clean channels than anything else and it sounds like the jazz tone I have always been after. I have read that Metheny rolls down his tone control quite a bit. I think he used to roll it down all the way when he used Gibson ES 175s. What is amazing is I can roll it down all the way and it still sounds very open and airy. So thats how I have been playing it and I think I have found my tone!! I think I could cop Methenys tone very eaily if I wanted tone or very similar. Obvioulsy that would require two short delays with no feedback. Anyway I love this instrument!!!! I am starting to think "hmmm, do I really need these other guitars"? Thats how much I love this thing.

I did have an inexpensive Ibanez hollow body but while it was decent it never grabbed me the way the PRS does.
