Re: Deep Set Neck Tenon
Thanks john
there are also different versions of the "deep set tenon"
the ida is that a wider, longer, and thicker piece of wood making contact with the gutar increaes tone transfer and sustain (i find that it does)
not to toot my own horn, but comparing a guitar with my neck pocket to a lp, mine sustain for considerably longer.
i just had a client tell me that when they recorded their album, the other instruments couldn't keep up and they had to fade my guitar out to match the others
so it works
that being said, some "deep sets" are different.
even the old gibsons, if i remember correclty were not the full width of the neck
mine are, prs are, and a few other companies use the entire neck width
i'll post a pic later
there are benefits to a neck through (this is deep set to the extreme)
but i find the drawbacks are too high
can't fix a broken/screwed up neck - must replace whole gitar
and honesly, what else coudl go wrong but the neck
also you can't mix and match body and neck wood. you can chang ethe wings that go ont the nekc through, but the pickups, and bridge and in the same wood as the neck so your kind of limited in the tone tailoring department
hope that helps
cheers
