Delay pedal settings....

Hey guys.

This is a bit of a n00b question I know, but didn't know how else to find it out. I've been tweaking for ages and can't seem to get close to what I'm looking for.

I've always been 1 for a pretty dry guitar sound with no delay and maybe a tiny amount of reverb (if any at all). I'm getting into more lead guitar at the minute and am looking for an idea of how I could set my delay pedal for this kind of effect http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O_YMLDvvnw. Not necessarily looking to copy the guitar tone itself, looking more to get in the ballpark of the note trailoff he's getting on this clip.

My delay pedals are either an Ibanez DL7 Delay/Echo or a Danelectro Dan-Echo depending on which pedalboard I'm using at the time.

Thanks for any info or advcie.

Re: Delay pedal settings....

I have a DigiTech and a Boss. Everything at 10:00 is neat and simple setting I run to a lot.

Re: Delay pedal settings....

Funny, I was just watching this exact video today on Youtube.

On my Line6 modeling stuff I set the delay to 540ms, that seems to be the right amount of delay for soloing for me. Then do a 30% mix, repeats a couple times while trailing of.

Re: Delay pedal settings....

Use your tap tempo digital delay and set it up up for dotted eights, or halfs or what ever sounds right and tap into the tempo. Set levels.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've been playing around with both Delay pedals for a while, but just can't seem to get the same effect that he's getting on that clip.

I haven't got tap tempo on either of my delay pedals, so will try out the settings you recommended and see how it works out.

Thanks :)

Re: Delay pedal settings....

I can get that with my DD7 in Analog mode with minimal repeats trailing off as mentioned before. Almost reverb like.

Re: Delay pedal settings....

That's an Alesis Quadraverb ,with minimal delay and some verb, with a Soldano SLO100 on the rhythm channel, with a Marshall Guv'nor pedal, with Gary's 159 LP Stripe #9-2227, anything else you care to know..Gibson heavy picks, Dean Markley light top/heavy bottom strings, Marshall cabs with V30's..

Cheers for the info.

I'm not really looking to cop his tone, just more interested in getting the same delay/reverb effect as him.

Thanks again! :)

Re: Delay pedal settings....

Delay plus reverb is a very cool sound - if you don't over do it.

Delay pedal settings

I'm about to pick one up. How much delay time can you get before things become super bitcrushed? I've read it's like 13 or 14 seconds. Is that true?

Re: Delay pedal settings....

i use an MXR Carbon Copy. i have Regen set to about 10 or 11 o'clock and Delay set between 10 and 12 o'clock depending on the situation. when i want the delay to just enhance the note trails i dial my Mix knob down to taste.

sounds gorgeous

edit: god i love this vid

Re: Delay pedal settings....

I think you need a delay sound with some natural high end rolloff and some in time 1/4 or 1/8 notes so they blend with the dry sound and not too high on the wet level.

I like to stick chorus in between and keep them all really subtle. But I like that as much as I like totally unprocessed clean tone.
