Deluxe reverb RI

i played a DRRI in the store, and despite the lack of PTP wiring, lack of actual wood cabinet, and presence of bizarre made in italy jensen, i liked it. i get the mojo of a real pre-cbs blackface, but they are pretty much dough and i don't want to be spending time in the shop on top of that -- but maybe there's something in between? like a modern repro that does use all the best components, hand-made PTP wiring, and like that there? like a pre-cbs BF DR that somebody left in the closet for the past 40 years...? :smokin:

Re: Deluxe reverb RI

Well, they are not PTP but most guys say there is no tonal difference anyway...not my opinion but it is pretty widely accepted. What do you mean about the cab...it's wood. As for the new Jensen...the DRRI comes with a C12K and IMO that is one of the better new Jensen speakers, great speaker IMO. As for other alternitives, look into an early SF or one of the many small builders that could build you a kit version, or for that matter get a kit and build it. If I were looking for a Deluxe Reverb I woudl get an Allen...his amps are all Fender based but with lots of added features and upgrades that make them even more useable amps to most people.

I like the Allen amp BF type amp kits myself...Last year at the Guitar Show this guy had about 4 or 5 different model Allen Amps that he built himself for fun and hobby and was selling the completed amp for less than the price of the kits! I asked the guy why and he just said he loves building amps and thought he was starting to have too many around! :laugh2:

Didn't have the money last year at that show, but it was a great deal and the amps sounded great and he did a flawless job!

Ok that's my story,I'll shutup now! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

I've played though a few BF/SF Deluxe Reverbs B4 I bought my Princeton. No complains, they sounded Great! I've never tried a DRRI, But the fella's over at the TFF seem to think the DRRI is the best thing since sliced bread? I don't get it? I have no beef with PCB amps sonically, But I'm well aware of the flimsy PCB material that Fender uses. After the grief I had with my Super 60, I promised myself I would NEVER buy a Fender PCB amp again. (O.K. so I got a HRD... It was $350 used):27: I don't think I could bring myself to drop $800+ on a DRRI. Even if it sounded as good as the original. For 2 or 3 $100 more you can score the real deal. But now you have a old amp that will need some TLC and no 5 year warranty. For me this is not a big deal, But for other I guess it is? Any DRRI owner's out there care to enlighten me?:)
