Demonizer?

Hey gang. I've been using stompboxes through my Randall 2x12's clean channel to get my heavy metal tone for about a year now, and I got the hankering for an upgrade. I'm looking for some high gain tube tone.

Out of all the amps I used at the local shop, the Peavey XXX takes the cake but it's expensive, so I'd really like to know what alternatives there are. Above all, I want to know what the verdict is on the Damage Control Demonizer. The site: http://www.damagecontrolusa.com/ . It looks like the Demonizer box has tubes in it and what not, but is it a replacement for a good amp head? And on that note, can it nail a good lead tone like an XXX? Any advice is appreciated.

No pedal can replace a head, period. There´s AFAIK no such thing as a pedal with a built in poweramp.

I guess I'll just have to keep saving to get my hands on that head. It does figure that any floor unit isn't going to equal an amp, however it's still tempting to think about it. The website says the Demonizer is in fact a genuine tube preamp, but even then, I need to know how it sounds before putting down the money. Are there any owners of Damage Control's boxes here on the boards?
