Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

What if any feature and tone could be packed into an amp that is specifically designed to your specs? Spare no expense, the world's best amp builders are there to make your tone dream come true. What would you create?
How's the chassis layed out? Cosmetics? Cabs? Grillcloth? Single channel?Midi? Channels?

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

Single Channel ... something along the lines of a Univalve/Bivalve/Blue Angel ... something between 5w - 30w - anything more than that and I'd grab either a Twin or a Marshall 1987x

Tube wise, I know I like 6V6, 6L6 and EL34, so I'd like something that can operate like the THD stuff, able to swap out power tubes, self biasing. SS Rectifier.

Cosmetics: Full Size head, well ventilated with a metal grill, black alligator (synthetic) instead of tolex, lots of chrome :afro: :bling:

Cab: 2x12 Baltic Birch with Weber Michigan 12's

Nothing too fancy

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

First the layout:

Channel one: Laney VC-30
Channel two: Peavey XXX Crunch channel
Channel Three: Framus Cobra lead channel
Channel Four: Bogner Shiva lead channel
Channel Five: Mesa MKIV lead channel

All channels would have their own FX loop, and could be shared if needed, as well as individually switched on/off. Each with their own poweramp, so I'd need a custom cab to accept them all.

Cosmetics: Framus Cobra. But black.

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

Just a Modeling amp that got every tone dead on, I mean no one could hear the difference.

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

Vintage '65 Fender Twin with built in Boss ME-50 (with that split second signal cut fixed of course :)), and floorboard to control it. That would be tone central for me! Lead boost channel would be nice too.

It'd have Daphne Blue tolex, white grille, Vibrolux knobs, blackface, and blue pilot light :)

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

Hmmm...

channel 1 (clean): vox type clean w/ more chime and shimmer than the stock ones

channel 2: marshall bluesbreaker/jtm

channel 3: marshall plexi

channel 4: custom audio electronics od (set for GGD)

channel 5: bogner shiva (AIC tone)

channel 6: bogner xtc red channel (for all lead work)

White chassis, bitchin' sparkle orange tolex (an amp that good needs to be decked out with bling bling :laugh2: ) I'd have one of those Matchless/ Bad Cat type killer cloth coverings (a grayish type tint) with 2 Celesion pre-Rola Greenbacks in one awesome 2x12 combo.

It would be 60w switchable to 30w to 10w. An FX Loop would also be included.

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

A marshall 1959 SLPX with the following mods:

Two completly serperate channels: Clean and Distortion.
The dirrty channel is modeled very close to the gain stages of a furman PQ-3
The clean channel is classic Marshall 'Plexi' tone.
A built in 10 band EQ
Everything else is stock, EL34 tubes, 100 watts of pure tone.

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

Head:
Channel 1: Fender Concert, bell like clean ups
Channel 2: Fender Blues Jr, warmer clean ups
Channel 3: Modded Plexi lead channel, like George Lynch
Channel 4: Bogner XTC lead channel
Channel 5: Soldano Decatone
Channel 6: Diezel VH4

That's too many channels, so it'd have to be worked out with push pull and boost stuff I guess :). Amp will have built in: Reverb (Holy Grail like), Chorus and Harmonist, all footswitchable. 6L6 Tubes, maybe a seperate set of SED EL34 for the Plexi channel. 50W switchable to half or 1/4 power, fx loop, rotary ohm switching, 4 speaker outs. No Tolex all 1/2" bolted metal, plexiglass grill so you can see those tubes glowing in the dark (like the H&K Duotone).

Cabs:
2x12 Celestion V30, also bolted metal housing (but only for appearence so has to be really thin), but Genz Benz G-Flex type grill, Popular/Maple housing, closed back.

2x12 Celestion G12-80, same specs as above, also closed back

2x12 Celestion Greenbacks, same specs, open back

Tooone heaven :32: :32: :32:

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

triaxis/2:90 in a head version
with an extra fx loop and its own switching unit

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

Channel 1: Pure Vintage Fender... somewhere between a Deluxe Reverb, a Twin, and a Bassman... no crunch at all, just pristine cleans here. Loose syrupy bottom, rich, thick mids and snappy, yet delicious highs.

Channel 2: Marshall JCM800 2204 style crunch and balls with enhanced active EQ section for wide range of tones. Think late AC/DC with more snarl.

Channel 3: Bogner Ecstacy 101B RED Channel duplicate. Vaitality! ;) :smoker:

EXTRAS: Onboard reverb; Fender-engineered unit modeled after a '63 Verb tank.
Tube rectifiers, one for each channel. and power-tube switchable.
Master FX loop.
relay-capable switching

Cosmetics: Blue Vinyl, Brushed metal chassis black chrome knobs, silver "honeycomb" metal grille in front and back.

Same with me, but take out two of the tubes in the 2:90 and install a 5th Avenue dispenser.

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

i like small combos, so my dream amp is more like 3 combos with a channel switcher, i would like to be able to take one guitar into 3 seprate amps all at once or any combination of the three. My soldano astroverb would be the first amp. 20 watts single twelve el84 and single channel that goes from clean to dirty. very nice plexi like sound but with more grind. the second is a matchless cheiftan, need i say anymore than i would like the 2x12 combo and the third is a divided by thirteen amp, the sjt10/20 in a 1x12 combo 20 Watt Class AB1/A, 10 Watt Class A Cathode Biased Power Section - (2)6V6 GT, Tube rectified, Voicing and gain structure offered via input jacks, Push/Pull Mid/Gain boost, Dampening/Flattening switch. putting all of these amps together should give me nearly all the sounds i really want.

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

I've already got it. Both of my '66 blackface Fender Deluxe Reverbs have been tweaked to have reverb on both channels, and each channel has been re-voiced for either humbucker or Strat single coil pickups. The normal channel now has alot more gain and drive and that's the channel I plug my Strat or Tele into...I can get killer clean chime or ballsy, natural overdrive. No master volume controls for me! I just plug into the appropriate channel and crank it up. Celestion G12H30 in each of my DR's. If I need more volume than one DR can provide I just bring both of them to the gig and play through two. Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

Wow you guys want massive amounts of channels!

Channel 1: Fender AB165 Circuit Cleans
Distortion: Bogner Xtc Red Channel
Solo Channel: Volume boost, Scoop the mids a little (Process the sound a bit to sound like a SLO)

In a 100 watt 12AX7/EL34 Pre/power configuration.
Midi Capable (Just in case)
Ability to assign different Cabs for different Channels (Clean gets one cab, Distortion/Solo gets another)
Hand Wired PTP
Frankly, I don't care about the tolex.
Clean Cabinet: Custom 1x12/1x10 with Weber's.
Distorton Cabinet: Oversived 4x12 with Greenbacks.

Any distortion sound I'd want other than the Bogner XTC I'd use pedals for.

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

It would be an amalgamation of the following amps...

Bogner Ecstasy
Rivera Knucklehead
Mitchell-branded Mesa Boogie
'68 Plexi

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

Why wouldn't you guys want a Modeling amp that had dead on Tone accuracy? It would be cheaper to make, no tubes to change. Why are you guys stuck on tubes? If the modeling is the EXACT (saying that you have like a Line6 that sounded exactly like the tube counterpart), why not use that? It certainly beats what you guys are looking for, because you would have every amp in the world essentially.

I guess I most not be thinking straight.

Because I'd want to pass this thing down to my grandchildren. :laugh2: I just get this feeling that modelling amps are ultimately fallable and doomed to obsolescence.

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

all i require is the exact master of puppets tone

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

3 channels:

Clean: The richest, cleanest fender tone possible (doesn't break up). Adjustable boost that doesn't break up.
Ch. 2: Classic plexi sound w/optional boost.
Ch. 3: Great modern lead tone, somewhat compressed, but very heavy and clear, w/optional boost.

It probably would require 2 cabs, an 2x12 open for the cleans and a 4x12 closed for the dirties. Everything would be switchable (pref. MIDI), from the effects loop to the reverb to the boosts.

Re: Describe Your Dream Custom Made Amp

I have my amp being worked up as we speak(if the builder ever gets done!)...I have IMO the best clean sound(Twin Reverb), so this amp is for crunch...it's a cross between a Tweed Bassman, a JMP 50 watt mk II, with a JCM 800 lead boost(the old style that you plugged your guitar into the footswitch), and the FAC switch from an Orange OD-120. It's head that I will use with a Fane loaded 4x12. If everything goes as planned, I'll post some sounds!

As for off the shelf amps Here are my opinions...

Clean sounds
-Fender Twin
-Hiwatt DR 103
-Sunn MOdel T

Crunchy amps
-Any good Fender Tweed
-Pre MV metal front 50 watt Marshalls
-Vox AC-30

Distortion/Highgain amps
-Bogner Ubershall
-VHT Pitbull
-Mesa Dual Recto(the older 2 channel version)
