Did Charvel make any inexpensive guitars?

Re: Did Charvel make any inexpensive guitars?

Did just that. Replaced pots, cap and five way switch. Put a set of new strings and had at it. Overall good sounding guitar. HB is wimpy but the two single coils are not bad at all.

Kewl!!!

Clearance deals on what are now the "old" models are there for the taking. If you do not fancy a double locking vibrato, there is a fixed bridge model. If you require a tone control, drill a hole for one.

If $280 is the budget, check out pre-owned MIJ Model 3, 4 examples.

Re: Did Charvel make any inexpensive guitars?

Charvel, Jackson, Kramer and a few others cranked out a ton of inexpensive guitars in the 80s and ruined their brand name for awhile. I am sure modern Charvels are great, but once they started mass-producing them in the mid-late 80s, they made a lot of em.

Re: Did Charvel make any inexpensive guitars?

I have Charvel DS-3, perhaps the cheapest one in the history of the brand (the price list from 2013 says $269), and have nothing to complain about. A bit of fret buzz but you can have it on expensive guitars, too. The only problem is the 22-24 fret access because of the bolt-on construction. So I only wished a set neck (In fact, I hope I can grab Charvel DS-2 Pro Stock on ebay next year). Desolations have mahogany bodies and mahogany oiled (!!!) necks.

Swapped pickups for the Black Winter set and it just kicks ass.
