Did I ruin the resale value?

I recently had some SD pickups put in my les paul and the tech reused the pigtails from the stock pickups (57 classics). I now have 2 57 classics with 1 black vinyl covered lead coming out of each of them (not the normal 4 conductor lead for coil splits even though it was set up for them). The leads are now 8.25 inches and 12 inches. Should I still try and sell them as is or wait until I get new wiring and reattach the pigtails?

Re: Did I ruin the resale value?

If the leads on your 57 Classics have been replaced, you should put the originals back before selling as resale value will be significantly reduced by having the non-original leads.

The leads haven't been replaced....just snipped near the plugs that plug into the Gibson pcb board. The tech used the factory plugs and just spliced in the SD pickups. I'm just wondering if people would still be interested in the 57's given that the little pligbterminal is now gone.

Re: Did I ruin the resale value?

Most people that are swapping pickups don't mess with those goofy terminals anyway. I bought a Burstbucker 1&2 set off of a friend that wanted EMGs in his Les Paul. As soon as I got them home, out came the side cutters and off came the terminals.

I wouldn't worry about it.

+1

As long as the pickup leads are there and long enough to use, you have nothing to worry about in terms of resale value.

And pickups come in 2-conductor as well as 4 conductor. So even if you'd replaced 1 with the other there's still no drop in value.

In that case, he most likely increased the value of your pickups by getting rid of the stock connectors. Very few people want that **** on their leads.

What do you think used PU's go for? We're talking a few dollars difference anyways. A lot of people swap out '57's because they're a run-of-the-mill PAF. Not like they're waiting in line to get used ones.
