EXCELLENT RESULTS!
(NOTE:in case you are not already familar with this mod,it increases the highs a good deal and cleans up the bass)
I think dimarzio should have the tone zone this way stock!
i cut off the ends that protrude slightly out of the baseplate
this increased the highs and made the tone tighter(to me at least)
the tone zone was a bit too dark and murkey stock but cutting the screw poles brightened it up quite a bit and made th low E and A string much more defined now
i like the TZ much more now this way
it is back in my strat:smack:
oh in case you are saying "goddamn this guy must go through switches and pots like crazy with all the soldering he does swappig pups every other day"!
well not a prob since i have quick connects on all my pups:laugh2:
PERFECT for a a nutty pup swapper like me! :laugh2:

How much do you cut off? If anyone has a pic for reference I'd be interested in seeing it....just so I can get an idea of what to do....

Just to clarify... Do you grind them off or cut them with a hacksaw or dremel? Inquiring minds want to know...:cool3:

I have a tone zone in almost all of my guitars. I loved them when they first were in, but now i find them, a bit muddy. I should really give that mod a try.

Have you experimented with different polepieces (like allen) in the tone zone?
a tone zone with allen poles is the BREED bridge pup:beerchug:
shhhhh dont tell anyone that:laugh2:

I'm really newbie with pups wiring, could you tell me how you did the quick connectors?

thanks

Re: Did the old cut the screws down to a tone zone

I'm interested in your "quick disconnects", do you use a connector with terminals (like a Molex) or some other method? I was thinking of doing that to the Paul and actually I think it would be really cool to set up the strat with disconects on pickguard so I can go from SSS to HH to whatever else whenever I want... Details man, details. :)

Re: Did the old cut the screws down to a tone zone

I did the strat quick-disconnect. I used crimp-on, insulated quick-connects from Rat Shack. you just need 3:

Positive to jack
negativeto jack
ground to bridge

piece of cake for a strat.

must be a PITA doing that way with 2 humbuckers in a LP (or my latest rear-routed superstrat project.)

I would do it with a 8-position screw-down terminal, snugged down on the side of the control cavity.

also interested in how you do the quick connects for the pickups.
do you buy the connectors at radio shack? or are they something special?
where/how do you install the connectors?

thanks!
