Difference between 7025 and 12AX7?

So I asked a guy who sells tubes what would be a good choice of tubes for an amp to deliver both classic Marshall vibe and gain without beeing mushy, and he recommended me a tube which is actually a 7025 for V1 and the Chinese ones for V2... so, what is the main difference between these two types? (I mean 12A7 and 7025)

thanks

Years ago the 7025 was a quieter and more robust upgraded 12AX7 tube designed for military use.....Today it's more of a labeling issue and basically you need a good quality 12AX7..

Same scenario with a 6L6 and the 5881 tubes....

So the 7025 won't be a good choice for what I want?

Edit: Wait.. I read 12AT7... ok then it should fit the bill. The tube he recommended me is basically a premium tube @25€. I might try it out...

A 12AT7 is a lower gain tube from a 12AX7/7025/ECC83. As SD97 noted a 7025 was a military tube. In the mid 60's tube manufacturer's started making the 12AX7's to 7025 specs. So that # became obsolete. The 12AT7 is used as a driver tube in many old Fender amps.

Thanks, but I already knew that... this is why I did the edit, I read "the 7025 is a quieter 12AT7".

ECC83 / E83CC is simply the European nomenclature for a 12AX7 ;)
thats basicaly what ben said too.. kind of.

the ecc83 is an 12ax7, so you can put in any 12ax7 tube in there =P

I like 5751's. What I like about them is they are not as linear as 12ax7. They don't distort as much but when they do distort they distort like a power tube which is very rich in harmonics. I use one in the #2 position of my ADA mp-1 because both tubes can be driven independantly. They brighten up the sound and give it a nice edge and sparkle.

The 12AT7 only has a gain factor of 70.
The 12AX7 has a gain factor of 100.
