Digitech=Lifeless

Re: Digitech=Lifeless

Good Digitech pedals that are anything but lifeless:

Digiverb
Digidelay
Whammy IV
Bad Monkey
Screamin' Blues
Grunge
Expression Factory

...of course, the last one is based on a DOD design, but the Digitech one sounds more "crisp".

...I dunno, Digitech is a mixed bag. The GNX3 (I owned one) is a great pedal and the GNX3000 is probably on par with most other "modeling/studio" stuff. Those artist series pedals suck balls though, I can't stand 'em. I also generally don't like Digitech's distortion units besides the ones mentioned...but yeah, all in all, I think a lot of the stuff is quality.

I think when using digitech stuff, as with most pedals, it depends on the rig context as well as the player's ear. One man's digital wasteland is another man's tweeker paradise.

Re: Digitech=Lifeless

That and they are usually hooked upto a $150 amp and a $200 guitar it seems.

I was using an American Deluxe Strat to Pedal to Deluxe Reverb RI. The GNX3 was through an ok set of Sennheiser headphones. Of course all of this is subjective to my ears alone in this particular instant. I may be pleasantly suprised by the Bad Monkey with my amp and guitars. And for the price I'll probably try it out one day. But yesterdays experience reinforced my previous experience with most Digitech pedals. I should have mentioned that there was one that did stand out and that was the Digiverb. I would really like to a/b one with a Holy Grail to compare.

You might as well be running a vintage Tube Screamer into a Deizel head with an Ibanez Jem and bitching that you couldn't hear the "vinatge tone."

Seriously...if you're going to pass judgement on a peice of gear at least make an attempt to compare it in a scenario which it was typically designed for.

Re: Digitech=Lifeless

Seem's that I touched a nerve here, didn't mean to. But of course certain pedals are meant for certain applications....duh.

Re: Digitech=Lifeless

Most ODs sound like crap unless they're actually ODing something.

The Bad Monkey is the same.....bland and boring unless it's beating the crap out of some unsuspecting preamp, which is where it comes alive.

I just hate sweeping generalizations based on a small handfull of products and limited real world experience.

Digitech may make some duds, but then again so hasn't Boss and Ibanez and plenty of other companies. If they're really terrible they usually aren't around very long.

There's plenty of gear on the market that I have no use for and I know if I plugged it into my rig it would sound terrible; it's just not the right peice of gear for me or what I do or what I play or even the kind and style of gear I have. But I don't bash Boss because their Metal Zone didn't make my vintage Les Paul and Fender Blues Junior sound like Metallica.

Just because it doesn't work for you does not mean that it doesn't work at all.

That's all I'm saying.

I agree. However, my beef is sound. Sometimes you DO want lifeless sound. I've heard albums where they use "walmart guitar" sound for maybe a couple measures, and I like that as an effect, although I'm not sure what they're doing. Think Switchfoot The Beautiful Letdown album, not sure which song but i think at least one of those songs has that sound somewhere in it. Pardon my ignorance, but anyways, I feel it's important that we don't judge something based on sound, because you might want that sound some days. I think cowbell sounds dumb, but sometimes you need it :D

Re: Digitech=Lifeless

You are right and I shouldn't generalize.:fing2: I guess that I was expecting more from them as a whole.

I'm sorry....after the whole Earvana incident I can't really take you seriously on things like this.

Re: Digitech=Lifeless

"Earvana incident"? Do tell...

TR deleted the original thread....and rightly so....he made a post about how the Earvana nut and Buzz Feiten were frauds.

Of course, it soon turned out he didn't actually know that the Buzz Feiten tuning system and the Earvana nut were two different products.

It did spwan this fallout though:

https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=84685&highlight=Earvana

The irony is that JumpMarine made a blanket statement about something and then realized that maybe he was hasty and that others had a point.

TR however, admitted he didn't know what he was talking about but despite that was still correct in his assertions.

Hence, a thread like this with him espousing anything just kind of seems a little laughable.

Re: Digitech=Lifeless

Actually the BM sounds great pushing an old already cranked amp:)
Hehe nah Digitech has good as bad stuff, just like everybody else, we make some crappy stuff as well if you ask me....that is no secret!

I shot my mouth off, and had a choice to make: continue in denial until everyone ignores me, or admit my mistake and learn. I chose the latter.

You had a choice to make: forgive someone who learned and apologize, or continue holding it over their head. You chose the latter, evidentally.

Now I have a choice to make: attack you, ignore you, or forgive you. I choose the latter. I guess you have a problem moving on with things, but I can look past that, because I'm not any better than you. We're all human, and some of us learn from our mistakes. Those who want to be forgiven must forgive others. I forgive you.
