I'd just talk to them, explain that by selling the classic 50 and not neccesarily shelling out anymore extra cash you would be able to get an amp that suits you more, give you more enjoyment, and probably encourgae you to play more, if its not costing them anything then i don't see how they would still say no.
Were you asking for additional funds or just to trade the amp? If you wanted some extra money to upgrade then i guess your only option is to work a few more hours.
Have you tried many pedals with your 50 by the way? A decent pedal pushing it could give you a much better OD, could be a low cost way to go.

Sell both amps in the local paper, then find a Vox AD60 or AD120 head and also buy the matching Vox 2-12 or 4-12. Or, Marshall, Avatar, Mesa cab etc... You'll be glad you did, since it'll sound like a monsterous version of your AD30 combo.

For 2, my parents wont let me sell the classic...
For 3, the cost of living is not cheap here, If I got a job making less than $7 an hour I couldn't afford to have a studio apartment and still get food. Ohh and I'm also still in school...
That's why I was hoping someone would tell me what to tell my parents to make them snap out of that mind set, without getting them mad and yelling at me.

My parents aren't rational people, they said after this amp, THAT IS IT. Even if I hit the lottery, I'd have to bribe them to get another amp. They don't care if its costing them money, they just don't want me to have a different amp. (Which it isn't, I've got $100 comming in some time this week, and my amp sells for between $400-450 used, thats enough for a vox head, i'd sell my combo for a cab.)
And Yes, I have a Marshall Jackhammer hitting it on the front, it just will not pull any more gain than ted nugent without making the amp extremely unruley.

I'm telling ya man, I've tried everything about it, yes, thats the 1st thing I tried.
My dad works at a packaging plant (Makes good money) and my mom works for a credit union. (Makes descently good money)
We aren't poor, just they don't understand concepts of things. They always bring up the (You'll just want to turn right around and sell the next amp, next too!) arguement. And of course once they start that theres really no way to counter it. Sure, I doubt I'd ever sell that amp, but good luck making em believe that.

Honor your mother and father.
Learn something greater than a better amp will teach you.
Say to them ok, you are right. I will keep the Classic and learn to live with it.
Sometimes when you agree, they will see your contriteness and compromise which is important to you and to them.
Then, perhaps in a couple of weeks they will change their stance by seeing your humility.
It's worth a shot. You will never go wrong by honoring you parents. Parents are people too. Believe it or not, they were once 17. And they remember....They do.

does you peavey completely 100% belong to just you? or did your parents pay/help pay for it?

Way back in the 60's, I was in basically the same place you are now, my folks figured it was just a passing fad, you couldn't make a living playing music, so all they would do is buy me a silvertone acoustic. But I worked hard all summer cutting grass, and any thing else I could do to earn money and bought my first Gibson.
Here, some 40 years later, I have made alot of money in the music biz, a had a little fame locally, owned my own sound system company, done a few national tours, and now my folks (God bless 'em) are always telling friends and family about how well I've done, who I've done sound for etc!

Well, It took 30mins and them getting really really mad at me, but I finaly got them to change their tune.
(And my dad trying to tell me a modern marshall MG will sound better than a hand wired plexi.)
And yes it does 100% belong to me, I payed for it.
So before I sell my amp, I'm not going to do the "trust what people say on the forums" I'm going to go out to GC and try some stuff out. Because, afterall, thats how I ended up with my classic 50.
And yea, thoes clips sound alright, but its still not high gain.
I've just learned for the tones I'm after, I will have to end up with a modeler, or spend $3,000+ on the real deal. And even if I had a job and could afford it, Until I'm doing weekly gigs, I can not justify spending that much.
So on the chopping block is... Either a Vox AD60VTH or 5150 combo. As of now anyway. I'm trying to find the best possible very sweet and bright high gain tones for $500 or less.

Pawn shops around here charge $400 for a squier bullet and call it "A classic vintage guitar."
Heh, some of you guys know good pawn shops, but I hit up about 20 last week and they all had nothing buy overpriced junk. Fleabay is going to be my resource for used gear.
And I seriously don't think this peavey could be modded to sound like how I want, unless you can get it sounding like a marshall or soldano. Well... And by then it'd be cheaper to explore other options.
I think I know what I'm doing this time... I HOPE! :laugh2:
