Well this Vpaf clip is the worst guitar tone i ever had to listen ; no pick attack , punch , all in a buzz !

wow man that is harsh saying that!!!
i think this statment was more out of a hate for dimarzio than a ctual hearing fact!
i think that dimarzio V paf took on the 62 original P.A.F and many other P.A.F purists i know agreed with this!
when all they heard was the clip and NOT knowing the maker of that pup
after i told them it was a dimarzio they were all like REALLY!?

I am not a clip guy, BUT the V hot paf was all over the JB in those clips! :)

i prefered it by a large margin gojung just by those clips
in my guitar/amp the V hot paf is totally killer it sound like EVH's older tone on steriods or something. piture the eruption tone with more! :eek2:

Lester,i never said i played an air zone before, acording to what i listened from wildstars samples they sounded(as in my subjective opinion) mudy to my ears.

to "maybe try them through a rig like mine then re opinionate on them"
would assume i had your ears, and wanted your sound(whatever that is).
get your facts straight, this is an OPEN forum, and diferent
opinions should be expected.
i do hope to try the air zone one day and maybe re opinionate on them according to my ears.TONE IS SUBJECTIVE,as are opinions if they werent we would all agree as to which pickup choices and all other matters. :offtopic:

:beerchug:
rguser i had that same idol series guitar and the anderson and 59 in it.
great over stock performance wise, but 59 sounded thin dirty,at least on that guitar, the best ive played clean thow.

:smack: GODDAM bro chill out! :laugh2:

i was just kidding around and semi making a point
i hate clips and certainly will NOT argue about them! :laugh2: :beerchug:

I think an amp can help compensate to achive an acceptable tone, yes. However that doesn't mean its THE sound I (or anyone else) would want. Don't get me wrong, BBs are some of my fave pups, and by far the best uneven winds I've tried, its just not exactly what I want though I'd have no issue leaving them in the guitar if I was unable for some reason to try something else

I believe its hotter than that??...up near the 500T, IIRC. I have not heard one, but from what I've gathered its basically "Angus or nothing" with that pickup. Hell he did fine all those years with regular ol' Gibson pups...reckon thats good enough for me too :D I would like to ty one though. A ocal shop had an Angus SG in inventory last time I went there...I should go give it a whirl sometime and back to back it with a 61 Reissue.
the angy pup is at 10K :)
sounds like a clearer not so dark BBQ !

P.S. Hey, Madguitar: I think Lester meant well. Maybe it came across wrong in a post, but I think he meant to encourgae you to try out the pup some more. Or not base your reaction totally on my clips, since my guitar and the AZ aren't a good match. I wouldn't take it personally! :beerchug:

wildstar thanks for the back up bro! :)
yeah i was not trying to criticize him or say his opinion is **** or whatever i just never had a prob with the air zones defintion or clarity as a matter of fact for such a hot fat toned pup it shocked me to say the least.
I love the dimarzio stuff as much as duncans
i just hear SOME guys rag on dimarzio simply cause they are dimarzios and not based on a tone fact

your clips sound great BTW wildstar! :beerchug:

i hope the airzone´s better than the clip cause i for one was almost getting one for my les paul.
your right on the money regrading sound clips bro.
my JB has nothing to do with the duncan sample clip. :laugh2:

you may or may not like it, i think the main thing is the height it is set to
every pup has a "sweet spot" for that person who plays it
the air zone to me sounds the best at least 2 millimeters away from the string at the last fret when the string is pressed there
but remeber this is MY liking you may like it closer or even further
i good ear and a screwdriver go a long way for a perfect tone from a pup
S**T i have even heard a so called lousy pup sound really good after some experimenting with height and am settings :) :beerchug:

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

actually i think that the dimarzio "fizzyness" in thr Virtual hot paf is good for copping the first vanhalen record tone
eddie definitely had FIZZ on that one! :laugh2:

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

did anyone else notice that the V hot paf clip is louder and has more punch?
wildstar did you use the same heights and volume on both the AZ and V hot paf clips?

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

I don't hear any of this Dimarzio fizziness and I'm a long time user of both Dimarzios and Duncans....

Yeah, I didn't get my levels exactly matched. I didn't keep the best records of how the master volume on the Pod Xt was set, so there's a wee bit o' variation there. But all controls that affect tone were exactly the same, so tweak your listening level and it should be OK.

Heights were not the same, but were pretty close. I adjusted for tone for each pup, and didn't write down what it was.

I could have been more scientific about the whole thing, but it would have taken tons more time!

I think you're right about the "punch", though. Maybe this is because the extra-strong low end of the AZ was masking or compressing the attack... ????

Damn, the more I listen the more I think I should have not traded the VPAF's! Well, can always sell stuff and buy them again. :smack:

Got some Air Norton in the bridge clips coming up later today or tonight (just recorded them.) And Jazz neck, too. Sorry, Dmitry, no direct-recorded clips! Just not enough time... sorry, dude.

Cheers

ranalli it is really not "FIZZINESS" it is more like PRESENCE! :)
I like dimarzio's presence! :beerchug:

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

hey lester what happened to yur custom 8?
do ya think the cc would be brighter in a mahogany bodied cort guitar(like neil zaza´s ) than a basswood one?

To-MATE-to .... To-MOT-to :laugh2:

Presence....... fizzies...whatever :D

They sound fizzy to my ears...I don't have a huge number of DiMarzio's under my belt experience-wise (PAF, PAF PRO, SuperD, HS3, Fred is about all of them I think), but they all have that little bit of fizz on top. Maybe it's more pronounced through a Paula/Gibson or a Marshall or a combo of the two, but I've always heard it. Grainy..fizzy top end...not tite enough. FRED is the worst for it of those I've tried.

he reminds me of a young seymour actually he has a great ear,is a guitarist ,is excellent at pup hand winding and KNOWS GOOD TONE!

GREAT PUP!

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

I've got some Air Norton clips up, in the bridge. And a Jazz neck clip. So far the definite winner in Dimarzio-land is the V PAF Hot, no surprise there! I don't like the Air Norton in the bridge. LOVE the rich fatness of the Air Zone, but it's just got too much low end UMPH for a mahogany guitar... The V PAF Hot wins for punch, clarity, and attitude.

I don't have a favorite neck pup yet - if I could smoosh the Jazz, Air Norton, and V PAF Neck all together and create one neck pup that would be the one!

Custom and Custom 5 coming soon...

And then of course I'll have to place an order for some High Order pickups! Thanks, Lester, I think... :laugh2:

Cheers

http://www.justinsamaha.com/AN_B_Riff.mp3 Same riff that i've palyed with all pups. It's actually from a song - I just recorded each pup to a new track in the song for comparison. It's striking how differently they all sit in the mix.

http://www.justinsamaha.com/AN_B_test_amp.mp3 Same amp as the other clips, with me improvising.

http://www.justinsamaha.com/AN_B_DropD_test_amp.mp3 Same as above.

http://www.justinsamaha.com/Jazz_N_test_amp.mp3 Put my Jazz back in the neck! Sounds nice, but...

Re: Dimario Virtual PAF - thumbs up

curious enough i liked the air norton better than the air zone for the bridge.to my ears the aparent very bassy caracteristic is way better in the AN than AZ.
why dont you try the virtual hot paf in the neck?
or better
