Dimarzio Breed

out of all the high output dimarzios, the breed and tone zone are the only ones with alnico magnets. since i have the tone zone right now, i think i want to try the breed. it's going to be in the 24 fret mahogany bodied RG with a fixed bridge. i don't know how it would sound yet. so......

tell me all about the breed and how it compares with the tone zone. :friday:

Re: Dimarzio Breed

It doesn't make you **** your pants when you hit a powerchord...

MUCH tighter, MUCH more articulate, MUCH less muddy, I could go on, but I think you get the idea...

btw, it is only 4 mv hotter than the Norton, you might want to give that a try...

Re: Dimarzio Breed

I have breeds in two guitars: One is an RG550 with a basswood body and an all-maple neck, and the other is a JEM7DBK. Both guitars sound terrific. I imagine a Breed in a hardtail mahogany guitar would sound great. It would be meaty as hell, and you could grind out Slayer riffs until you keeled over dead.

Re: Dimarzio Breed

My Ibanez RG1550 sounds incredible with the Breed. Just the right amount of highs, plenty of mids and articulate lows, very thick sounding without ever getting dull.

My favorite bridge humbucker, so far. But you know what's even better? The Breed split.
It's still a very fat sound, with a touch of single coil snap and bite.
Doesn't sound weak and plinky like some humbuckers do when split.

Do yourself a favor and add a push-pull knob to your guitar. It opens up many sounds, and they're all awesome. :D

The Breed could be a bit too dark in a Les Paul, but for a long scale, thinner body mahogany guitar like your RG it's gonna be great. Give it a shot.

I'd love to hear a SG with a Breed.

EDIT: Haven't tried a Tone Zone properly, sorry for the lack of a comparison.

great! great! exactly what i need, i guess. although the Tone Zone does what i want, it sometimes gets too boomy in the bass department.

Re: Dimarzio Breed

Hey Diego, how does the Breed bridge handle harmonics compared to other pickups you've tried?

Re: Dimarzio Breed

The Breed is one of the better Dimarzio's. I played one a long time ago in a SG and it was quite good from what I remember. Thick but, real nice.

The TZ could possibly be the WORST sounding pickup I have ever played (including cheap factory buckers). Warm mush is how I would describe it. Imagine if you had mudd-butt and you messed your pants with some thick diarrhea, if that had a sound, that would be the tone the Tone Zone makes. I am telling ya, it is horrible. Maybe it follows the rule of Dimarzio thumb, it needs basswood to sound good, I dont know?

They don't jump as easily as with the JB, but it's still very easy to get them. Definitely good for pyrotechnic playing. :D

Re: Dimarzio Breed

what aren't you liking about the TZ, cayle?

it gets too bassy at times. although tweaking of the eq can cure it. it's more of a, "i want to try another pickup". :D

through my mahogany RG, it does sound good. i guess i want to try another pickup, that's all. the Tone Zone is not bad sounding. you need to mess with the pickup height to get that good tone.

I do this will all pickups just for kicks. I am telling ya, I am experienced enough to know when it needs that adjustment. The TZ is nowhere close to being a tweak away from being good. A tweak of any sort, it is horrible.

well, pcikups don't work well in all guitars. i guess i just got lucky with the TZ and the mahogany RG. :friday:

Re: Dimarzio Breed

did you ever try an AZ? put a little tape on the sides of the mag in the tone zone (if it's not super-glued to the baseplate) to get an idea of the difference. could save you a little hassle
what about a JB?

haven't tried the AZ...i'm thinking it's like a TZ with less agressiveness?
Duncans are out of stock at the nearest store, which is the only duncan distributor in my country...sucks..:eyecrazy:
