Hi all... I got a set of Dimarzio D Activators in my Ibanez SZ. They don't perform at all how I expected...
Specifically the bridge one (and I've measured the DC Resistance, which matches Dimarzio specs).
Anyway.... When I AB it with my tele or strat (fitted with Tone Zone The and JB Jr respectively) the power seems way down. For example... If I am playing a palm mute chug type thing on the open A string, I really have to dig in to get anything. Both other guitars seem to have so much more power when doing the same thing.
Pickup height is certainly not too far away. If anything, on the close side.
I've set it up so it's just pickup, into volume, into output Jack to eliminate any other factors.
Is this just how these pickups are? Reading the blurb on the Dimarzio website it certainly says they respond to pick attack, but they seem off. Certainly for a pickup that is supposed to be an active replacement. And I've also AB'd them with a Les Paul fitted with slash pickups. Again, the Slash pickups seemed louder (and they are a mid output pickup)
Any thoughts? I've just purchased a new 500k pot just to rule a faulty pot out.
I have also wired it straight to the output jack, but there is soooo much treble it is hard to hear is like it should be.
