Dimarzio D Sonic

I am thinking about putting one of these with an Evolution neck in my Jackson but I want to know how well it cleans up with the guitars volume knob.

Re: Dimarzio D Sonic

Why are you at the Seymour Duncan forums asking this question?

Your first post on the forum and you ask this question to me? There happens to be a lot of Dimarzio players here and a lot of knowledge to pass around. If you want to marry to one certain brand then it will be your loss newb.

To the OP, what body wood does your guitar have?
The D-Sonic is most suited for basswood instruments bear in mind

Thanks. My guitar is an alder Jackson sl2h but it is a dark piece of wood. The stock JB was even very dark sounding in it. The Super D opened it up. I was considering installing the D sonic with the pole pieces towards the bridge and the metal bar facing the neck which is what they suggest for less bass and brightness.

My guitar may be alder but does seem to comb away some of the highs. The Super Distortion wired in parallel gives me the perfect amount of treble and reduced output. With this information and based on the D Sonic EQ curve I am making an educated guess that it will probably give me the sound I am looking for. That is my thinking at least.

Do you think it would not sound good in a relatively dark piece of alder?

If you're happy with the Super D then why change it?

Because I dont know if I will like the D Sonic better. Like I said I want to give the D Sonic a try. I think it will have the balance I am looking for and the output is reduced. The D Sonic is 390mv and the Super Distortion is 425mv. Granted 35mv is not a big difference but I have to install the Super D in parallel to get the treble and reduced output I want.

I can love a lot of pickups but only certain ones will work for me. The Super D is great but not perfect for my uses. I was looking into a Custom 5 as an alternative. I bet that one is a killer pickup too but I dont think it will work for me.
