So, lets get a story going.

back in 1992, I had saved enough allowance to buy my first "good" guitar, which was a 1973 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop. This thing was beat to SHIT!!!! Completely tarnished hardware, basically no frets left, tons of back buckle rash, I mean this was the poster child for a beat and loved LP. in 2002, i graduated college, became very broke and had to sell the guitar, albeit for quite a profit at that time, even in the condition it was in since it was ALL original, including the rectangular OEM Gibson case.

Fast forward to 2020. I had realized there are really 5 guitars from my youth that I regret getting rid of (we all have those!). I was skimming Facebook Marketplace and come across this super beat up early 70s LP Deluxe goldtop that reminded me a ton of my one from the 90s. I HAD to have it. I contacted the add and it happened to be at a pawn shop in the New Orleans area for a very good price. I could tell the top had been repainted in OEM Gold, but the back and neck were all very worn in. I noticed the bridge humbucker had been changed to some kind of Dimarzio Soapbar humbucker.

I ended up buying the guitar and plugging it in....Absolute TONE MONSTER out of the box. Incredible sustain, resonance, super loud acoustically, and that bridge pickup....WOW! Best Dimarzio I have ever had in any guitar. I didn't know what it was, so i did a multi-meter test and it read out at about 10.5k ohm. After some research, i realized that it was the long discontinued DLX-1.

Now, this pickup is amazing! Super articulate, great mid hump but in the right places, and enough crunch to play any heavy style of music. I mean, maybe its the ultra resonant guitar that the pickup is in, but this thing sings for days. insane sustain! This guitar has become a top 5 in my 50+ collection!!!!

SO, asking any of you have experience with this pickup? Mind you my first LP Goldtop Deluxe had a MJ wound Seymour Duncan SM-3, which i thought sounded good, but not GREAT. I ended up swapping that guitar to Duncan HOT P-90s, and loved that setup. If i would have known about this DLX-1 pickup back in the day, I would have totally put one in my LP.

Sorry for the long story!

i always liked that pup. its hotter and thicker than i want for some stuff but thats why we have multiple guitars!
