Dimarzio Fred And the VPAF Hot?

STRATDELUXER97

Stratoblaster Tone Meister
I was looking at the specs on both of these pickups for my SG's bridge spot...I currently do have a chrome covered Fred in this guitar and I thought maybe this new Dimarzio would be cool to try in it's place?

Turns out that the Fred has more output at 305 vs I think around 285 for the VPAF Hot and also the Fred has higher dc resistance and specs out with slightly more mids(Something an SG can afford).....

Am I better off just sticking with the bridge Fred since I do like this pickup already or do you guys think the VPAF Hot would be a better choice?

I'd really like to try this new Dimarzio out I guess, but I think I'd like to hear more from someone that has tryed both or is actually using the new VPAF Hot> :smack: :)

The Virtual hot PAF is an EVH pup.

the FRED is a bit hotter and is bright and clean.

Totally different IMO.

Can you then compare the Fred to the VPAF Hot? Is the VPAF Hot warmer and more note articulate and about the same output?

Can you give me more on the VPAF Hot? I know all about the Fred from using it since about 93 or so in both a strat and my Gibson SG's bridge position..

I have the Virtual PAF and Virtual Hot PAF in my Wolfgang Special and like them a lot. I posted a clip that is on this board somewhere. I think the Virtual hot has an open, airey feel and sound to it, which puts it in the Van Halen ballpark. For me it's the best paf combo out there.

Here's the clip

Hmmm yes, I would like more DETAILED comparisons between the VHOT PAF and FRED, as well as to any Duncan models. I loved my experiences with the FRED and VHOT PAF. I will be honest, it's cheesy but - I do not use the Fred because I do not like the look of it - hahahah, yup I said it! I am not the type to go replacing screws etc. I ALSO do not like the wah effect it has at times. It's a great tone and feel, but you cannot shut it off, which can be troubling if you do not want it on a recording.

I had phenomenal experiences with the whole VV series from Dimarzio. I only wish they were a tad more Duncan-esque with the tone. Silly, but true.

hmmm, if that happened they really wouldn't be Dimarzios, they would be Dimarcans or Dunzios :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Hmm, I was looking into a VHot paf for my new ibanez since I was wanting to do middle of the road output. But IMO so far I like the stock pickups better than what I heard in the soundclip for the Vhot.

It just didn't seem to have enough erm... something. To smooth I guess you could say. Ahh not enough agression.
