Dimarzio Mo'Joe review

Re: Dimarzio Mo'Joe review

Well you can disagree but I dare to state that you don't have experience with either pickup. First of all, Dimarzios are known for having a very pronounced midrange in their pickups. Part of the reason pickups like the PAF Pro and Mo'Joe have a vowel like character is because of the midrange quality they make them with.

The Custom Custom is full of mids and lacking in bass, and that's a fact. The Mo'Joe was developed because Satriani wanted to boost the midrange of his FRED (a slightly modified PAF Pro). The Mo'Joe definitely has a lot of midrange so to say "it doesn't have near the midrange" of a Custom Custom is simply inaccurate.

It's also apparent that the Mo'Joe, PAF Pro and FRED are all relatively low in the bass range than many other Dimarzios. The Mo'Joe and Custom Custom have relatively the same amount of bass.

I know this because I've already installed both pickups in different guitars. You can disagree or deny what you like, but you can't deny the fact that there are some parallels with Custom Custom.

I rest my case.

I'll second this. I own every pickup mentioned here, and the Mo'Joe has a dense midrange that has definite parallels with the CC, while retaining a lot of the FREDs harmonics and touch.

The CC IMHO is a misunderstood pickup based on its description - Its not a bassy pickup, its a pickup with a big midrannge.

I can't tell you how good the Mo Joe is because that is a matter of taste. It is comparable to a Norton or JB in the sense that they're all full of mids. Output is slightly less than the Norton and JB, but it doesn't need the output in terms of feel and pick response. It's dynamic but not so much that only vintage PAF players would enjoy it. It's a great pickup for all kinds of chording and, of course, soloing. Clean sounds are great, but it depends on whether you like mid-oriented pickups for clean tones. Some players prefer less mids and more bass for clean tones. The Mo Joe has plenty of bass but it's not overpowering or boomy. In that sense it's comparable to the low end of a Norton or JB, maybe a touch more low end than a JB and more low mids. Basically, the Mo Joe is like when you dial in a Mesa Boogie with lots of mids. It has a healthy low end, nice low mids, a little mid scoop right before the upper mid spike, and treble that is present but not too bright. It's a great pickup and a lot of fun to play for soloing and any kind of rhythm. It's not a death metal pickup, but it can handle stuff like Metallica.

Re: Dimarzio Mo'Joe review

you are so precise
great review

so, for you it's not important to have 9k of dc resistance instead of 16 for jb

the fred has a particular tone and good mids= between a single coil and humucker

i wanted to keep that but to go to a little les paul sound too : a fatter sound and more output too

keep harmonics
have better clean sounds (more trebles)
more sustain
more outpout
good split

so, norton, breed, mo joe, sh4: impossible choice

in the videos, the mojoe bridge pickup has a les paul sound: hot, warm, full
it's different of the early years of Satriani

Re: Dimarzio Mo'Joe review

hello
norton/moe joe/sh4/

what's is the best pickup for basswood?
i have a fred but even if i like it sometimes i saw really big differences with a sh4

if a SD can gives me a brighter sound, it will be good
with DM, i really don't think what to think

the fred has 10K and the mo joe only 9 and the norton 12
i wanted "more"

other problem is that it's had to say goodbye for the fred's tone
i don' t want to be disappointed

so sometimes, i'd prefer to go with SD and sometimes i want a DM to have 2 DM and when i listen to Joe it sounds like a les paul
you must know that only 5 for trebles can be dramatic compared to a sh4

Then you need a Breed. You will get all of the Fred tones + high output. Easy.

Re: Dimarzio Mo'Joe review

breed is not known for his trebles but he seems it has a les paul sound
and i want a mix

Of course it has treble. It's a bright pickup. The Fred you has a treble response measured at 5.5, but the Breed has a treble of 6.5, so you're not going to be missing anything on the high end. Les Paul PAF's typically have the mids pulled back a little. The Breed has plenty of mids and Fred type of harmonics. It's high output and will give you what you want.

Re: Dimarzio Mo'Joe review

sorry but, look at this:
The BreedTM Bridge
DP166
356
5
9
8
17.07K
4 Conductor
Alnico 5

my decision is taken: the mo joe !
but i don't know the sound of the PU

a fatter sound than the fred
a les paul sound too
not a lot of trebles
alnico V

i think breed is another kind of sound / fred
so i just want a little change

if i knew how to change pickups, i could have fun trying a lot of pU: )
