Dimarzio Satch Track?

What your opinions of this pup? I normally dont gel with Dimarzios, except the TZ and Super Distortion. So I havent tried many others. I was lucky enough to be gifted a Satch Track from a forum Bro (THANKS AGAIN!!!!) Now I know its made for the neck, but I put it in the mid position of my tele and it kicks booty! Real fat midrange. Im curious what it actually sounds like in the neck position? I have a Guit (mahog body, set mahog neck) that Im going to be showing some love pretty soon and it's Single/single/hum. Im trying to decide what pups to put in it. Currently the neck and middle are the stock Duncan Cool Rails. But the neck pup has separated from the base, plus Id like to get something alittle more stratty for it. The Cool Rails are great and Im keeping them in the other guitar I have thats similar. Just trying to figure out what to put in this one.. Any input on the Satch Tracks? Other ideas?? Thanks

Re: Dimarzio Satch Track?

I love DiMarzios and have used a ton of them, but I don't gel with their single coil sized humbuckers in the neck. I ran the Pro Track, Chopper and Satch Track in my superstrat and they were all too thick sounding. And this was in a 24 fret guitar, so I imagine it being even worse in a Tele.

Hmm... ever tried the Cruiser bridge in the neck?

Technically yes. I've played an AT100. But I've never used one in any other guitar.

I don't like them. No they don't sound like real single coils. Just really low output mini humbuckers. With the Mesa and BB Preamp he uses, you can't tell how dirty and muddy they actually are through clips.

DiMarzio's Area line destroys them and even they don't sound like a real Fender single coil.

There are ways to mask 60 cycle hum, but it's just something you have to deal with to sound like the genuine article.

Re: Dimarzio Satch Track?

have to say they are one of the best single coil sounding pickups, BTW how do you rate them with gain applied.

I've used one through my "usual" rig and sounded great, and played a guitar with one through a JCM 800 clone. That was great, too. They're very low output, though.

Re: Dimarzio Satch Track?

I heard Satch use it in a demo of his Ibanez, the one they painted that muscle car orange color. I remember liking the sound a lot even though it was a single coil.

The guitar was really nice too. The red pickups go really well with the reddish-orange finish.

This was the demo IIRC:

If you'll notice from recent videos he has since stopped using that pickup altogether favoring a Sustainiac.

DiMarzio's S.C.-sized buckers just don't sound like anything else, in a bad way. Not to be a killjoy, but they're not clear like single coils, and they're not rich sounding like full size humbuckers.

Seymour Duncan's S.C.-sized buckers can actually sound like the genuine article and still fulfill that 24-fret neck pickup niche.
