DiMarzio Super 2

Wow, what a great neck pickup. Never tried it in the bridge. I like the fact how good it cleans up and how clear it sounds with loads of gain. Has that treble bite for smooth shredding leads. Not a lot of mids, or bass. Pretty balanced.

Anyone know the Duncan equivalent to the Super 2?

I've tried around 7 different Duncan neck pups in an RG and none was close to the Super 2. The closest tone wise I have found so far is the DiMarzio/ IBZ pickup that came in some Ibanez Premium guitars.

The super2 and dmz/ibz neck should be very close, and even the inf1 is in the same boat too.

Yeah the Infinity 1 is kind of similar. I have it in the neck and an Infinity 4 on one of my RGs. Poplar body. The Infinity 1 is almost too bright in this guitar. When I roll the tone down halfway or more I can get that Super 2 sound. If I had the same pickup in a basswood guitar might be even closer to a Super 2. I find almost all DiMarzios sound great in basswood. Here is the RG...

Why not just go with the Super2? Nothing wrong with crossing the streams, and it really does make a good match with a JB in the bridge. My preferred setup for years now.

Super 2 is very intense humbucker. Has two characteristic aspect: clarity and powerful. It has a huge ceramic magnet within thats its power source. Not wound too much and thats where comes clarity. So if anyone has muddy neck position and desire for more power without muddiness, super 2 is the cure :)

My complete opposite experience, honestly.

I liked it better in the bridge than I liked it in the neck position, personally. Kinda like a ceramic PAF Pro. I didn't spend much time with it, honestly, as I'm kind of in a super hot super mid-forward pickup kick right now, but it was solid.

I didn't like it in the neck kinda at all, honestly. Had almost a cheap pickup vibe to me. A little too over-the-top for me, and I'm the kinda guy that hates low output neck pickups just because companies try to convince you that otherwise, neck pickups sound muddy. Well, to me, the Super 2 was bright and open... yet still muddy, LOL. Plus a little too attacky (much like the PAF Pro) for me. I much prefer the Evo Neck, personally.
