DiMarzio Super Distortion

I have just read up on the SD on the DiMarzio site and I have come to understand there is an extra MID-boost. Can anybody support this? Because, if this is true, I'm buying it. I want mids, mids and MORE mids.

dimarzio

Norton® is the name, and nasty is the game. Following in the footsteps of Fred®, Norton® has the kind of rich harmonics you thought you could only get from a single-coil. It also has more volume, mid-range and bass than a vintage humbucker. We achieved this through our patented "dual-resonance" design. It's the only way to get a bridge humbucker to sound so solid, or a neck pickup to sound so big.

Recommended For: Bridge position. Can also be used in neck position with hotter humbuckers like Tone Zone®, Super Distortion®, Super 3™. All solid body guitars.

Tech Talk: Norton® was originally designed to extend the tonal range and power of standard output humbuckers without going over the top. It's more modern than a PAF® sound: the benchmark Les Paul/Marshall combination yields more midrange crunch and high frequency pick harmonics than vintage-style pickups were capable of putting out. Really good for opening up the sound of mahogany set-neck guitars.

Re: DiMarzio Super Distortion

So....the Norton has more mids than the Super Distortion? I dont want JUST mids, but i want a sh**-load of mids, low bass and a bright high end....soo...yeah

anyways....yeah

thanks, moom and racer x. i find you guys commenting/helping me out more than anybody

Re: DiMarzio Super Distortion

in that case, the norton still may be what you're looking for but the EVO is another choice too. but the evo is extremely hot, and i mean really hot. but i still say for the norton.

Re: DiMarzio Super Distortion

The Super Distortion is a really harmonically rich pickup, with good mids and a heavy bottom end. It's one of those pickups that keeps sounding better and better the higher you turn the gain up.

I think the Super Distortion is higher output than the Norton, if that's your thing.

Re: DiMarzio Super Distortion

Get the Super 3 for straight up mids....it's got all the mids of the Super Distortion but it's tighter and the bass isn't quite as big/loose sounding. It's got a ceramic mag too so it has a nice bite to it as well.

Although I admittedly love the Super Distortion too...

Sounds like you are describing the JB.

Yeah, it could be that too....depends on what kind of mids he likes. The Super3 has like "middle-mids" while the JB has real high upper mids.

Re: DiMarzio Super Distortion

The super D is super hot! Its the second hottest pup next to the X2N. It is a big sounding pup but I wouldnt say it is mid heavy. The CC is much more middy.

the super distortion pisses all over the norton.

Re: DiMarzio Super Distortion

Basically, what I want is a tone most identical to Slayer. What I meant by "low bass" was, I want more mids than bass. I dont like my sound to be drowned out by bass like with the Invader. I just want it to sound as DEATH-metal as possible

SLAYER

Re: DiMarzio Super Distortion

I have some songs using the Super Distortion. Click on My Latest Music in my sig. I believe I used it on "The Excitement!" and "Battletoads Theme". Hope that helps! Super Distortion is one of my favorite pickups. Definitely my fav for 80's style lead work. :13:
