DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

Guitarist

Mesa-ologist
USA Jackson SL2H Soloist...

  1. Alder Body
  2. Maple Neck-Thru
  3. Ebony Board
  4. 25.5 Scale
  5. Floyd Rose

I'm replacing a TB-4 (JB) in the bridge and a SH-1 (59) in the neck. I'm wanting to get a little bigger sound out my guitar as well as possibly putting a little more power. Versatility is always preferred. I also still want to retain the vocal quality of the JB and the "airy" sound of the 59, but I want creme pups, so I'm pointed in the direction of DiMarzio.

How about this combo?..... Air Zone DP192 in the bridge with an Air Norton DP193 in the neck?

I like the sounds of the descriptions, both claiming nice sustain, a good open "airy" sound, and a great response to picking dynamics.

Now, what do you think?

Re: DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

You know you can get creme pups from Duncan...right? Double creme.

Re: DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

Errr, now does that require custom shop or removing covers? Or did I just totally overlook something?

In either case, please enlighten me.

Re: DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

Maybe a Fred in the Bridge. That is a kinda JBish sorta pup...

Re: DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

It just involves ordering a set of double creme pups from duncan with the covers "lightly" soldered on. You just slip the covers off and presto...double creme. It does not cost extra, at most it will take 4 weeks. Check with blackrose or Lew, they may have some double creme's in stock.

I own about 7 double creme pups.

So that lawsuit or whatever from DiMarzio didn't pan out? Good thing.

Re: DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

It's not that. If a pickup ships from the factory with metal covers on...it is not an infringement of the patent. The patent applies to UNCOVERED pickups only.

Re: DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

I'd still appreciate replies to the origional question if possible. Thanks.

Re: DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

The Diamarzio PAF is a nice open/airy sounding pup. and The Breed is "50's Humbucker on 'roids" OPen and powerfull with just enough compression to help it sing and sustain. Would be perfect for Alder.

Re: DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

Air Zone/PAF... the Air Norton is gonna be too tight to be a replacement for a 59, but if tight is what you want in a neck pickup, then by all means.

I dont think there is a patent involved....its a trademark issue.

Re: DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

patent, trademark....I get em' confused. I was too lazy to look it up.

Re: DiMarzio Vets...What Do You Think About This?

Airzone in the bridge and Paf Pro in the neck!
