Dimarzio X2N...

Re: Dimarzio X2N...

Squashed = overly compressed

Keep in mind I am going back to 1987 in my mental database, it was in a US Ironbird, all mahogany with a Kahler and BC Rich pre-amp. It was great fun to flip that switch when doing old Stooges tunes.

Re: Dimarzio X2N...

i thought about trying one in my strat just to check it out. I use a very high gain amp and i get the feeling it would not do so well in a recto.

You know that pickup originally was created as kind of a gag. Someone at Dimarzio got cute and was trying to be funny by buliding a big massive ceramic mag pup and it worked...the X2N was born!
That's similar to how the Invader was created. It started out being the "Darth Vader" and was made because someone wanted to see how much output they could get out of a passive pickup.

My fav X2N sound is Fast Eddie Clarke's old Motorhead Strat.

thats the tone that peaked my interest in the X2N in the first place. i may still pick one up someday

would the X2N be too muddy for a guitar with an agathis body and a 3 piece maple neck?

I don't think so at all. I think it would be clear as anything. Despite all the output it's a very clear pickup IMO.

I'd say it's pretty balanced, and does have some compression. But tone curve questions are the wrong attitude. You don't ask "What kind of fuel economy does that Ferrari get?" You ask how fast it goes.

X2N Tone curve? Whatever. But it is Mother ^*%^%#% LOUD!

uhhhmmmmm i thought the whole reason you bought pickups was to alter the tone of your guitar but uhhhhh :smokin:

Re: Dimarzio X2N...

It will alter the tone of your guitar- by boosting the amplitude of all frquencies to the ceiling. Thus, balanced (flat) and compressed. But mainly LOUD. A really fun kind of loud...

Re: Dimarzio X2N...

i have an X2N on bridge pair with Breed neck on my RG. And I'm ready to match anyone in chugga-chugga show down :smokin:
