Walt, I agree with the majority of your comments. I go a different route to get my tones and the HS's just didn't do it for me especially since I like to play many different styles and as a result I use Strats for different applications; the clean tone of these pickups was just lacking for me, especially in the dynamics department. I don't find them particularly warm sounding, either.
To the original poster, the bottom line is that we are all artists and should use whatever inspires us to play, whatever it is that gets us there. Try a set and, if you don't like them, Ebay them and try another set.
