Re: dime amps?..what the hell?
It probably has a lot to do with Courtney Love. The Small Clone, PolyChrorus and the original SansAmp were all reissued due to Cobain, but no one could attach Cobain's image to them. Fender was allowed a little more leeway, but I never did see them attach Cobain's image to the Stratocaster, Mustang or Jaguar... despite him being more known for their use than the JagStang.
I suspect that the posters and shirts had to do with the product itself being his literal image, rather than using his 'image' to sell another product (such as photo of him standing next to stack of amps he never used).
The ironic thing is that due to some smart marketing in terms of product name Cobain probably sold more Grunge pedals than DS-1, DS-2s, or SansAmps, which is funny as the DS-1 is what he's most famous for and the SansAmp is In Utero in a box.
I wanted to share my thought (FWIW) on the Kurt Vs Dime gear issue. I think the reason you see Kurt on clothes and other items so much is he was the voice of the generation.. His words were prized more than his chops, so he is more of a widespread Icon vs more limited to the guitar world. Dime, was a great guitarist..
