Dimebucker pickup for Jackson HELP!!!

Have a dimebucker for bridge and a generic humbucker for neck which only has a hot wire and ground. Tried sodering them in using the 1 volume 1 tone and 3 way switch using the wiring diagram on the Seymour Duncan site <http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=2h_1v_1t_3w> but when I finished I get a terrible buzz. Both pickups worked, but that buzz wont go away. Figured its a ground problem, but what did I do wrong, most importantly how can i fix it!!!!! Pictures and diagrams would be greatly appreciated.

sorta sounds like you got the wires reversed on the output jack.. the way i troubleshoot if im having a problem is to break it down to the bare minimum of parts..

Re: Dimebucker pickup for Jackson HELP!!!

Did you check the color codes for the neck pickup?

Re: Dimebucker pickup for Jackson HELP!!!

I had a Dimebucker and had the same problem.

I know I had it wired correctly. I even tried swapping wires just in case I got one that was reversed. No matter how I wired it, it always had this horrible buzz. I stuck it on the meter and it looked fine.

Finally I gave it to a friend who wanted it, even if it was broken. He said he wired it up when it arrived and everything was fine; that's just how they sound.

This is interesting as I have zero buzz with my Dimebucker. It is super articulate and clean with no noise... Perhaps there is something else at play here?

Re: Dimebucker pickup for Jackson HELP!!!

Nevermind my previous post, somehow I missed the part about the neck only having hot and ground.

That said, is everything properly grounded?

Re: Dimebucker pickup for Jackson HELP!!!

if it buzzes with both pickups.. id sooner look at the jack.. switch.. check for cold solder connections and grounds on the volume pot.. i typically disconnect the tone from the circuit when i troubleshoot..makes it easier to me and it eliminates a possible

as i said.. sounds like the jack is wired backwards.. perhaps im wrong but thats the 1st place id look..2nd place would be the volume pot.. 3rd is the P/U selector switch..

Actually I think that was the sound. Like I said, the guy I gave it to said it worked fine when he got it. I know buzz when there's a ground issue - got that with my JB/59 hybrids (still gotta fix that). This was different.
Like when you find that one TV station that's off the air and get the hypnotic grey snow that you can sometimes make out shapes in, and the flat "shhhhhhh" sound.

Re: Dimebucker pickup for Jackson HELP!!!

I have a Dimebucker as well and it sounds dead quite. I run my Ibanez into a Mesa and get total silence on my rig.

I do recall having an issue installing the pickup though. I ended up taking it to a tech at Guitar Center and for like $30 he did it for me and got it back sounding perfect.

i tend to save every schematic or drawing i come across.. never know when you will need it or something from it, so i have schematics for pedals, amps, every puckup/mod config imaginable,ect..

too lazy to sort the 30 or so files not in folders.. probably organize later.. i prefer keeping everything on my local machine.. never know when your internet is going to act up:)..

the list of color codes is pretty complete EXCEPT no PRS.. had to do the last pup install the hard way.. the patient made a full "tonefull" recovery

Well....that is a splendid collection you've cultivated good sir. I do something similar as well. Save my
notes, manuals, diagrams etc in case internet acts up. Usually it's just more convenient to open it on my comp then to go online to be honest.

That is most interesting...is that the only Dimebucker you've tried? Mine is noiseless when not playing or I don't understand the noise you are talking about...lol

No problem, I found it a couple years ago when I needed color codes for my Burstbuckers. It has come in handy.

I do the same thing. I just like the idea of having my own personal library in case I need a schematic or layout diagram.

yea.. same..

most the time i use the guitar schematics more as examples as i generally draw up my own more customized wirings.
