Direct box?

Re: Direct box?

A direct box, sometimes called a DI box, is a device designed to "skim off" part of the signal going either from an instrument to an amp or from an amp to a speaker. It allows you to send a balanced signal to a destination, usually to a snake or board. It's usually connected inline between the signal source and destination. Does that help?

Re: Direct box?

A direct box converts a high impedance unbalanced source (guitar/bass keys - 1/4" jack) to a low impedance balanced line (XLR). If you have an impedance mismatch you lose a lot of signal and tone andf a direct box fixes that. It also allows a high impedance signal to be converted for running the long distance through a snake (low impedance) without incurring high levels of line loss.

Re: Direct box?

to put it into very simple terms, a DI box will take the signal from your guitar, which you can then send to your amp and then something else like a PA, u can then change the volume and other settings on your amp and what not without it effecting the signal that's going to whatever else its going to, like a PA. I hope i was able to dumb it down a bit for you, haha
