Direct mounting a jazzmaster pickup

Hey guys,

i am trying to figure something out here. if I am correct, there is nothing but empty space between the magnets of a jazzmaster pickup. I should be able to drill, with a drill press of course, 2 holes (between the 1st and 2nd and 6th and 5th polepiece) through the flatwork so I can directmount the JM pickup. I want to install that instead of a p90 (yeah, I gotta rout, no biggy there), but I don't like the usual covers etc.

What do you guys think? Should work, right?

I'd never try that on a pickup I cared about, but in theory it should work... Tolerances will be, I imagine, tight.

On the other hand, makers such as Novak, Lollar, Creamery, and maybe Rose make direct P90 replacements with pole magnets, and those should be very close to what you want to do.
