DirtyFingers vs Distortion or.....??

Re: DirtyFingers vs Distortion or.....??

Yes, yes and yes..... Evo is the neck model. I was only considering using it in the neck. Yes, the TZ is prolly going to be too much, def very bassy. As Joey V said, its a great pup for thickening up a thin sounding guitar.
And, Yes, Im running a Splawn half stack and Im sure Im not driving it too hard. Im sure it would A)sound glorious dialed up, and B) probably level the neighborhood.. I "crank" it up to about 1 or 2 on the master and have been heard about 3 blocks away....

I just hate that my budget has gotten non existent. Im really sweating what pup to try. Cuz I cant afford to just buy em and see.. The DF didnt sound too bad today.. Sadly, most of it is my playing, but some days it isnt too bad and somedays it seems off. Like the guitar is out of tune or something..

If you have a Splawn just turn I the master and use the loop volume to bring your overall volume...
I suppose it would depend on what year your amp is....the older models didn't come with the loop volume.

That is still choking off the output tubes and speakers, which can cause it to muddy up at bedroom volumes. Some amps/speakers run at low volumes better than others to YMMV. Not trying to be critical, just trying to make sure BR is chasing the right thing. FWIW, I think Sykes used a DF in his main LPC for the Whitesnake days so good tones can be found.

Yes Joey, the BL thing is convoluted, and I was just trying to offer an alternative. FWIW, a lot of Nuno's tone comes from running a Rat in front of pretty much everything except his sig amp, which apparently has it built in, and that he plays so percussively. I agree, the Steve's Special is a great pup too, never thought of comparing it to a BL, but I can see that, it is kinda scooped, although not at much as a Custom 5 IMO, and it is really clear sounding.

Back to the OT, cool that you found more "free" options to try, knock yourself out! So, if I'm keeping up, so far you have uncoverd a Tone Zone, a Suhr Aldrich, and a Rio BBQ to try, that should keep you soldering for a few days ;-) Let us know what you decide on.

I find that I can get a killer tone at any volume with my QR...but, yes obviously the louder it is and the harder the tubes work the better it sounds. But I have zero complaints about getting great tone at any volume.

Sykes indeed used a df during white snake and blue murder. It was his pickup of choice for a while. Steve Clark loved it and used it frequently, Mathias jabs, Hetfield etc... so it got around a indeed.

Yeah that is big part of Nuno's sound, and most likely a very beg part of the first album, but on a lot of the other albums especially II, and III, he didn't really use that combo, at least that's the claim. II I believe was mostly an ADA MP1 into a macintosh hifi PA, at least that's what Michael Wagner claims, and III was a Soldano hotrod 50 for rythym and a solid state GK pre similar to the units Iron Maiden used for 7th son for all the lead stuff, and that's from Nuno, so who knows.

I like the SS a lot. Some call it scooped, but I like to say the bass and treble is accentuated. Really cool sound.

Re: DirtyFingers vs Distortion or.....??

For big and hot, you want to go hotter than the Distortion. Like the JB or hotter. The Dimebucker, Invader, and Alt 8 or friends.

Re: DirtyFingers vs Distortion or.....??

Devastone, Yes! I have guitar stuff in diff places since I have limited storage to keep it together and have those pups mentioned. So, was excited to remember that.. Heck, get excited to remember anything anymore... haha
Should give me few good options.. Im sure the DF are capable of great tones.. I love Sykes and co. Im just not finding what Im looking for.

And yes, my amp was one of the first year Splawns that had the ability to use the loop as a volume. And it sounds pretty darn good at lower volume. HOWEVER, when I play in the garage, and being nearly deaf... I turn up to where it causes it to not sound so good on the loop and have to use the reg volume.. Stuck in the middle..
