I'm assuming the high note you're referring to was a bend. If so, I had the exact same problem with an old Ibanez RG270. After giving the neck a little relief with a minor truss rod adjustment, the problem went away. Either that, or raise the action so high, even a slow Blues player would cringe

Maybe try finding another guitar of the exact same model. Sounds like a flaw on that particular guitar you were testing.
I plugged it in and it sounded great, I then started to play this instrumental song I'm writting and then I hit one of the high notes in the song... and got nothing. the fret was totally dead.

Tell me about it. I almost told the guy to get me his supervisor just to tell the supervisor he's saying I am wrong about something I know is right. I've played SG standards (priced similarly, thank you) and never ever gotten fret buzz.

It wasn't a bend. It was the A at the 17th fret or something.

actually yes, I was. I was trying to get the price down but the salesman wouldn't agree to it, no matter how bad the playability was.
