So what is your newest toy? did you finally break down and buy that Billy-Bo?:fingersx:

I don't think I'll ever own a Billy-Bo but you never know...as for new toys the newest thing is my Mission Amps 5B4 V Front Super clone which is amazing. I had to pay a larg chunk of change on my taxes this year which put a hamper on my GAS but I am looking at another Telecaster as well as a new amp as we speak...What about you?

Re: Discuss this amp!!

Got a new '52 Tele RI in Kentucky. Willis Music was having a sale and they had if for about $130 less than the low price i have seen from any of the big guys. Love the way it handles, but that vintage correct switching MUST GO!!!!!! The roll-off cap renders the neck pickup useless, even when you use the blend feature, which is kinda neat. I might go with an RS kit and keep the blend setting. I never really liked turning down the tone knob in the middle postion on a Tele anyway......gets a little weak and muddy

Re: Discuss this amp!!

Re: Discuss this amp!!

I think so. Scott gave me a guestimate of April 14.

Cooo...that one will be gone in 8-10 weeks!:chairfall :chairfall :chairfall

Nah dude I hold a perfect record for keeping stuff that I order special made for myself! Let's see that would include my acoustic and the pedal John modded and my other two pedals that I made myself. Does that count for any credit?? LOL!!

By the way what kind of amp deals have you been pursuing that fell through so quick?? Why you holdin' out on me bro?

Re: Discuss this amp!!

I still bet you'll sell that Deluxe pretty quick!:laugh2:

Anyway...I was trying to deal with that guy Kelly (that used to work at Atlanta Discount) on his Marshall head (remember the one from Atlanta Discount). But it just looks like things are not gonna happen...no biggie! I also went amp looking again yesterday...spent about 3 hours trying all kinds of Dr. Z amps including the Route 66, 6545, Delta 88, RxES, and Maz Jr as well as a Carr Hammerhead and matching cab, a Roccaforte Custom 30, a HiWatt David Gilmour signature head, 65 Amps London, and a Two Rock Custom Reverb. I have serious GAS now!

Re: Discuss this amp!!

So did you go to that place you were telling me about that sells Divided by 13 or was this at Midtown Music?

I was gonna go check out the /13's but I called the store and they didn't have the model I wanted to look at so I just went to David's...he's set the store up all different and I was the only person there so I got to check out a good bit of stuff...very cool stuff.

Hoss, Im gonna be honest...they all sounded a bit bright to my ears. Now, I have say this...the store I was at was out of Dr. Z cabs so I used a Two Rock cab that I was not very fond of and all the amps I tried were brand new so they all had new (stock) tubes in them these things together maight account for the opverly bright issue.

Now, all that said I liked all the Dr. Z amps for what they were except the RxEX which has a flubby bottom end that I could not EQ out of it no matter what I did. The 6545 was a great amp but I wich they had set it up a little differently. As for my personal fav I really liked the KT-45 and the Route 66...the Delta 88 was cool too but it's a beast of an amp!

Im gonna be honest...I went in there with plans of bringing home a Route 66 but after playing a few other amps I am very split now on what to do!

Re: Discuss this amp!!

Talk about me! Here's what Christian sounds like in his head while he's been looking for another new amp...... "hmm I am gonna get a Matchless. Nah I can't hack $3000. Well Maybe I'll just get a Route 66....ahh they didn't have any Z cabs. Well what if I just have something custom made....Nah...............Oooow I think I'll go check out this new place that sells /13, but....well they don't have the model I like. That's cool cause I'll just go check out that VHT Deliverance. Ah man the VHT is one channel and I sure don't want the 3 channel one. Ahhhh I found the amp I like, but I gotta rip out the stock tubes and speakers even though I paid two G's for the amp. You know how those amp companies that hand wire these killer amps that cost 2 grand and don't know how to tube or speaker them."

LOL :beerchug: And you call me bad for going through so many amps!! LOL I love it dude.

Re: Discuss this amp!!

I have played through a bunch of cool amps lately but for the prices that they are going for they need to be near perfect!

-The VHT Deliverance was good bit WAY to bright and a one trick pony...plus no reverb

-The Matchless was great but it was over 3k and I wish it had a little more grit before it started sounding like ****. Matchless amps are very strange...there is a window of good tone then they start sounding like a rats nest...I don't like that...not for the prices. That said, the Clubman reverb was a great amp but it didn't have as much crunch as I wish it did before it started sounding like that rats nest... I still like it the best of all the amps I've tried so far but there is somethinmg about it that tells me to wait...

-The Dr. Z stuff was nice but I want to try one through a Dr. Z cab to see if they will be a little less bright...all the Dr. Z's I tried were way too bright...I still wish they had reverb!

-The Roccaforta Custom 30 was an amazing amp hands down but if I buy one new Im not gonna get a black one, the only one Dave had was black. I do wish it had reverb and I have to say...for a 30 watta mp it was loud as ****...louder than any other 30 watt amp I have ever seen!

-BGE didn't have the /13 I wanted to try but no matter...I would never spend 5k on any amp...ever, thats just stupid! Plus...it doesn't have reverb, I just wanted to see what all the hype is about.

-I also tried a Carr Hammerhead yesterday that I really liked...took a while to really get some good tones out of it but it was a very cool mp with a lot of cool tones to offer...again,m wish it had reverb.

-The other thing holding me back right this minute is I want to give Bruce a little time and see what his Aurora 30 shapes up to be...I think that might be my next amp but it never hurts so shop around...

I will say this...The Aurora 30R looks like a killer amp to me but I have to wait a bit longer for the Dallas show to coime and go so I can talk shop with Lew about it, then I have to talk with Bruce about the set up I would like to have...if the Aurora doesn't pan out I now have plenty of other ideas!

See bro...the difference between you and I is that I will go try out 20 or so amps, but one and keep it for a very long time...you go buy an amp then trade it and or sell it, get something else 20 or so times until you're happy...I like my way better!

I think if you tried a Clubman with a NOS EF86 & maybe different tube lineup altogether, you'd see a HUGE difference.

GREAT amp that I'd love to try again......

Now, I won't get into the buy-sell-trade debate with you & B Bent...I've done my fair share ....but I will say this: there's only one way to figure out if an amp is right for you & that's to play it within YOUR situation.

If you gig, play it out....if you play at home, ya' gotta love how it sounds in your space.

If it ain't working....MOVE IT ALONG TO SOMEONE ELSE.

That in itself is the beauty of these boards & the internet :D
