Discuss this amp!!

Re: Discuss this amp!!

The guy that I bought the Tophat from spoke highly of the Carr stuff. I need to play one next time I go to Midtown. I keep hearing incredible things about this Tophat. I am dying to get it man!!! Keep your Wednesday night open man it's jam time at my place.

I just realized we probably should have PM'd most of this stuff!! LOL!

Re: Discuss this amp!!

All true...I just like giving Greg a hard time.

The truth is that I have been going crazy trying to play as many high end amps as I could find lately for various different reasons.

I will say this...I really liked the Clubman and could see myself getting one...in fact there is a used one here in town and If I hadn't just written the IRS a fat ass check I would get it but right this very minute I don't need to drop that kind of cheese on an amp...another amp!

I think I am paying through some of the best amps around today and Im sure that when I get ready to pull the trigger I'll have the right amp picked out...

Forget the Pm's...this is much better...and other people can join in!

I might be working late tomorrow but IM not sure yet...if not this week...Saturday or Sunday should be wide open!

Im telling you...That Carr I tried was abit odd to get used to...but after a few minutres I started getting lots of cool tones out of it...in fact as they were yesterday I liked it better than most of the Dr. Z stuff I tried! Hell, I liked it better than the Matchless in ways...I wish it had reverb but it was a cool amp for sure.

Re: Discuss this amp!!

The one I had didn't have reverb......how's the verb on it & is it tube driven?

Re: Discuss this amp!!

Yes, the Clubman

The Clubman had great reverb...not Fender verb but I liked it a lot!

The Aurora that Bruce is working on has verb which makes me want to hold out a bit...he should be done with the 30 watt reverb model by May or so which is fine with me. Reverb is not a muct but it would be a kiuller added bonus. The Dr. Z stuff was also quite nice and the Roccaforte was amazing...in fact the Roccaforte is the only amp so far that I've tried that didn't have verb that I didn't care that it didn't have verb!

SOMEDAY............

The only amp I'd like to grab right now is a Univalve. I miss the one I had & it's just a fun little amp to play mix & match with.

Other than that, I'm set.

FOR NOW :D

Re: Discuss this amp!!

it's never over!

I started off looking for something with a killer Plexi vibe this last go around but have gotten side tracked a million times and now im just looking for another cool amp!

Really Im holding out to see how the Aurora shapes up...it looks like a great amp with a lot of cool features...

Well, if it plays like it looks, it'll be a keeper!

I am weird. I was talking to Christian the other day about the looks of the Aurora and I don't particularly care for it. I am sure after seeing and hearing Christians current Super from Bruce that the "A" will be killer, but for some reason the aesthetics don't do it for me.

Well, considerring your avatar....I'm guessing you're 1/2 blind. :laugh2:

I dunno....I think it's pretty hot kinda retro looking.

Unlike Mrs. Rosdale there!!! :27:

Re: Discuss this amp!!

what guitar were you using on the Z's? a little on the bright side eh? actually i kinda know what you're talking about...even the clips are on the "gritty" bright side of things especially with single coils...i was under the impression that the bright could probably be tamed with the right speakers though!?

and actually, the PresEX is my favorite from the clips on the site...i really need to go play a few of these in person?! but, no place around here sells them...the closest place is Willcutt in Lexington.

Re: Discuss this amp!!

I was using a 57 reissue Paul most if the time yesterday...I think that the RxES would br great with a Tele and maybe a Strat but it was the only one that I didn't really get along with...it was also a bit on the bright side but it had a flubby low end that I could not tweak out of it no matter what I did.

All that said I will say that I was using a Two rock cab with one Two Rock 12 and one Eminence 12, over and under cab with an open back (hated the cab BTW...) So Im hoping that a Dr. Z cab (or a cab with Celestions) will help tame the bright and maybe even tighten up some of the Z amps...The store I was at has some Z 2x12's on order and Im going back when they get them in!

Re: Discuss this amp!!

cool...i'll be interested to see what you think about them with the Z cabs!

Thank you for NOT PM'ing this convo! I now feel much better about wanting to return my amp after only having it for a few weeks. I just have no idea what to get instead!!!!!
