Dislodged nut

Today when playing on of my guitar the string snapped and when investigating further the nut had moved, when there is no tension it just falls off and it moves when I bend my wound string with any type of vigour
What do I do?
(Sorry for accidentally putting this in the wrong place)

Remove the strings and glue it back into place, so long as the nut popping off didn't damage the wood beneath it. You might as well replace it with a quality tusq or bone nut while your at it.

It’s a bone nut, there’s no damage, what type of glue would you recommend

Just a small dot of white or yellow glue will be fine. Do NOT use super glue or epoxy. The nut is supposed to be removable for repair or replacement.

Actually, a drop or two of super glue is not wrong. The sheer strength of CA glue is very weak, so removal later is quite easy with just a tap of the hammer.

Any glue will work, all you need is a couple of drops.

Few dabs of super glue and good as new

The one time I dislodged a nut, the doctors had to take it out. Glad yours is less traumatic.

I was tempted to title this thread “I bust a nut” but didn’t want it to get shut down faster than a ticking sound on an airplane

If this got shut down because of "I bust a nut", someone would have to go to desensitivity training.
