Certainly seems like it would be powerful enough to keep up well. For those of you who've tried it, how's it sound?

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

It would be *gasp* a 12k bridge pup!!!!!!!!!

I like it. Someone has to have done this?

And with an A5...it would be A JB LIGHT!

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

I have it in the bridge, currently wired through a Blackouts preamp. As I understand it its like an slightly underwound custom with the same oversized ceramic as the SH-6, I could be wrong though.

I tried it without the preamp, and punchy and bright is what I got. Felt a bit too bright for me. Supposedly George Lynch used the SH6-N/Seymoriser II in the bridge for some of the Dokken stuff. With the BMP-1 its great, the preamp brings the low end and even more punch.

There are a bunch of old threads on this, have a search on Seymourizer (which is what these pickups used to be called - SH6B = Seymourizer 1, SH6N=Seymourizer 2), and you should find them.. IIRC someone did some magnet swaps on it in the bridge a few years back.

The only other thing to think about are if its a logo'd pickup and you want the SD logo the right way around you'll end up with the screw coil toward the neck.

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

Hmm....I have one in a drawer that came as a Mayhem set with a bridge model....I've never tried it in anything! I've grown a fondness for lower output pickups these days, I'll have to try it in the bridge of something......

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

The Seymourizer is a very nice neck pickup. It's not low output, though, so if you're into that, this isn't the one for you.

Although it is hot, it never gets muddy. I've tried mine in the neck of 2 LPs and it was great in both - still in my current LP.

It's very nice clean.

I tried it in my basswood-bodied Ibanez in the bridge and it was bright - not a good sound. I tried it in my agathis-bodied Tele in the bridge as well, which is a dark and acoustically loud guitar, and didn't like it either. It might work for someone, but I didn't like it.

In the neck it's sweet. But, then again, I like hotter neck pickups. I like it's rounded highs and inability to get muddy under any type of gain.

As an aside, when I was testing some PAF-style pickups (Seth, 57 Classic Plus, Breed neck, 59, PG) in my current LP I found the Seymourizer sounded most like the Seth bridge, in that it was voiced the same. Although the Seymourizer was hotter, switching from the Seth to the Seymourizer sounded like turning on a light overdrive pedal, as opposed to switching to a different pickup. At least that's what it sounded like in my LP.

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

There's a guy selling a MJ Seymouriser in the TP.

That's me actually :p
Since it doesn't look like anyone wants it right now, I was thinking of maybe checking it out in the bridge of my Studio Custom. I have a Custom in the bridge right now and it sounds awesome, but I have a Custom in the bridge of another guitar (that has a distortion in the neck), so I was wondering what a "less-hot Custom" sort of thing would sound like. Maybe I'll get out the iron and try it out. Sounds like it might be pretty good.

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

I have tried it with both the A5 to make it a JB lite(killer bridge pup!) and i tried the A2 also very good if you want a JB type tone with less output and aggression this can be beat. with the A2 reminds me of a PG on steroids

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

Seymourizer II = Distortion Neck = SH6-N. The older ones are labeled SEY instead of SH6-N. When folks mention the seymourizer they are usually referring to the Distortion Neck.

The Seymourizer I = Distortion Bridge = SH6-B

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

If Seymourizer II was labeled SEY, what was the Seymourizer I labeled?

I've got 2, both SEYL. One's got the 83-88 stamp, the other the 88-present stamp. Would they both be Seymourizer II's then?

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

Finally got around to trying my Distortion Neck in the bridge of my Hamer Studio Custom (a Fralin 8K humbucker is in the neck). I used to have a Custom in the bridge, which was great, but I'm moving that to another guitar (along with the Dimarzio Bluesbucker that was in the neck) and wanted this to be more PAF-ish. The Distortion neck sounds awesome in the bridge! It's brighter than the Custom, but not obnoxiously so and it sounds great clean through high gain. I'll probably get around to trying other magnets in it (only have A2 and A8 lying around at the moment), but I'm in no hurry because it has a cover and it sounds great as is. Anyone looking for a Custom-lite should give this a try.

Did you just say custom lite? :scratchch

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

How bright is it stock?
I'm guessing Demon/Full Shred bright,no?
Is it PAF-ish sounding?
How tight and punchy is it?
We need more details man! :D

Re: Disortion Neck in Bridge?

Someone else with better descriptive skills needs to try this out :D
It's a bit brighter than the Custom, but not piercing, which makes sense if you look at the resonant peak in comparison with other Duncan humbuckers. I've never played a Demon or Full Shred, so I can't tell who it compares to those. Tight and punchy? Yes. Not exactly PAF-ish; but with a PAF-esque neck, the overall combination is more PAF-ish than with a Custom. And the cleans are noticeably better.
