metal muff is a solid pedal, thats what I would go for personally. I own a big muff NYC pi reissue and my friend owns the metal muff and I've messed around on that for hours, its great for what you need.

that said, if you have the money, you are only holding yourself back by not getting a better amp. but it is really your choice in the end what you want to get, when, and why

I already said why in the other; Muff.

metal muff. i have a big muff and a metal muff, both amazing pedals for their singular uses. i dont play them both in the same band, but they both are exactly what i wanted in both situations. dont expect them to cross over, i would exactly use a big muff for black metal, but i wouldnt use the metal muff for my fuzz rock

I know you're probably not going to like the answer but you're not going to get great tone through a distortion pedal if you already don't like the tone of your amp. A distortion pedal greatly colors the sound of an amp, but that amps characteristics definitely still shine through. When you consider that buying a pedal is going to be 100-150, if you just wait a bit longer you could get a pretty killer amp used

Those pedals ain't in the same league, heck they ain't even playing the same sport.

Metal Muff. It is a pedal that sounds more natural, and better imo, and is more versatile. I bet you I can cover everything from texas blues to death metal with it.

very well put. smoother, more natural distortion. no "can of angry bees" tone and no muddy low mids.

there's really no question which pedal to buy here (if it counts, I was the manager of the Accessories department at Guitar Center for awhile). played every pedal from Boss, EH. Ibanez Digitech. etc. the MM is the only "metal" distortion pedal (excluding boutique high dollar stuff) I've played that sounded good.

Agreed. It is the only metal pedal I have owned, and will own. The fun thing about it, unlike other pedals that sound super distorted like crazy as soon as you put any gain on, the MM actually kinda almost acts like an amp's lead channel, starting with a little, and building up to an insane amount of mayhem.

Also, be warned that the one with top boost, can be very treble heavy when the boost is on, so make sure you play around with it quite a bit.

You might want to consider the seymour duncan Twin Tube Mayhem. It is more expensive, but I hear that as far as metal pedals go, it rules supreme. If you can afford it, check it out for sure.

i voted the metal muff. best out of the lot.

i use to have one but imo, a rocktron metal planet with a compressor before it blew the metal muff out of the water.

Re: DISTORION PEDAL? (disregard older post about metal muff, mt-2, ml-2)

out of those 3 Metal Muff
+1 Metal Planet I use one and its only beat out by a $179 Blackstar HT DistX tube pedal
I own both
I like to put my Bad Monkey with gain at 0 ,infront of the Metal Planet

Re: DISTORION PEDAL? (disregard older post about metal muff, mt-2, ml-2)

the MG line of Marshall has a good metal fuzz to it already... i'd try and get something that sounds different... i may get ragged on for picking something different but the Boss MD2 Mega Distortion is cool thru some amps... to me it has sort of Mesa style gain... of course you can't get that Mesa sound out of a cheap pedal but that is the league i put it in...
