Distorsion pedal

Hi! I am new on this forum and i play rock.
I have a vox nt15 and i need an od or Distorsion pedal for The clean Channel.
I looked at The valve distorsions like The twin tube Classic or The blackstar ht dual and The ehx english muff'n but then i saw The joyo pedals like The crunch Distorsion that Seems good for The price.
I have no chance to try out The pedals and because of this i won't buy expensive pedals with no esperience with , but i may try with The joyo because of The price..
What do you say? Any experience with them? Something other?
Another question... I need a lead Channel ,in your opinion is better a second pedal with higher volume , a booster or an overdrive to put in front of The Distorsion pedal?
Thank you
Bye

Re: Distorsion pedal

My favourite gain pedals are the Xotic BB Plus and the Fulltone GT 500. Both have 2 sides, a higher gain side and more of an overdrive side. Both allow you to select the order in which you want to order the effects.

They both have a fairly british character, the Fulltone uses a wah inductor to voice the mids which give an interesting vowel sort of tone.

Re: Distorsion pedal

i have had very little success putting distortion boxes in front of Night Trains.

the entire point of those little 15-watt lunchbox amps is that they get sick distortion at low volumes.

Set it for medium-crunchy and use your guitar's volume knob to control gain. Save your money for a bigger, cleaner amp that takes pedals better.

This.

Or you could trade in your night train for a Blackstar Ht-5 of some kind. The HT-5 has an ISF control which can let you change and mix the sound to how you like it on top of your normal treble, bass, mid etc controls. I can get a very british tone out of it when I like.

Re: Distorsion pedal

I have the Twin Tube Classic and love it. Very versatile. I know there are some who have had issues with it, but it has always been a flawless performer for me.

I also get some great tones from the Lava Box. The MXR Classic OD is also a great choice for the price.

Which pedals did you use? Which was the problem exactly?Low or hig volumes?

Re: Distorsion pedal

High volumes and low...the Night Train gets an okay clean tone but that's just not what it's designed for.

It's named after a Guns and Roses song and it sounds like Jimmy Page in a box. If you wanted a clean amp to put pedals into you should have bought a Fender...

Re: Distorsion pedal

Why don't you get some sort of boost or overdrive to push the Night Train gain into the sonic apocalypse levels you're after?

Re: Distorsion pedal

MI Audio Crunchbox will go from good marshall crunch to insane amounts of distortion. I've never used one in front of a Night Train, but I love the clean tones on those amps and I honestly think it will do a great job. If the GC in Austin happens to have one I'll run up tomorrow and try one out for you. I think MI Audio just came out with a new version that has more controls for the tone of the pedal better. I got mine for only like $90. I'll get back with you on the pedal test.

Re: Distorsion pedal

I have an old Sovtek Mig100 that gave me the same trouble. I could get a good dirt tone with the amp setting and an OD pedal in front of it but with it being a single channel amp it left me with no clean tone. Every distortion pedal I put in front of it just sounded like crap. Granted I didn't buy but one high dollar dirt pedal to try with it and that broke me of buying them. It was a Wampler Train Wreck that sounded great on a buddy's Fender can't remember what amp. You may end up buying another amp to get where you want to be. I'm not all knowing but I got a Genz Benz El Diablo and it solved my problem. Good luck.
