Distortion pedal for solo boost for Iron Maiden?

Does anyone know what distortion pedal the guitarists from Iron Maiden use as a boost for solos? I've heard that in the early 80s, Dave used a MXR Distortion + and Adrian used a TS-9 Tubescreamer? Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks if anyone can help me out.

That would be correct.

I know they used the MXR stuff in their 1980's tours but does anyone know if the still use those Distortion Plus pedals with the Marshal MP1 set ups they use? I would think they just switch patches for solos and don't need the MXR's anymore....

Re: Distortion pedal for solo boost for Iron Maiden?

I have another Maiden-related question. On the Brave New World album, how does Dave get that awesome vocal-like clean sound? If you listen to the title track, you can hear it perfectly. I was looking through some gear listings of Dave, but the only thing remotely close to it (that I think) is some kind of chorus. Can anybody confirm this?

Thanks,
Andrew

I've never known Dave to use chorus. I've always thought he used a phaser. On the title track of Brave New World I'm not sure what he uses, it could just be a clean patch from his JMP-1. I could very well be wrong though as I don't really know. Maybe someone else can help you out?

Re: Distortion pedal for solo boost for Iron Maiden?

Just a few years ago i knew that all 3 guitarists in Maiden used Marshall JMP-1 preamps for LIVE shows, and also Dave had a Marshall rack multiFX units as well.. Marshall came out with a 1 inch rack unit for Effects to go with the JMP-1 in the mid 90's and soon it disappeared...

on a side note, 2 years ago i have seen photos of the guitarists using PODS when practicing

For years i knew Dave had a MXR Flanger on his Cornish Board..... It lists it in bands gear in the inside cd/lp cover of Live After Death...

When it comes to studio sounds i know most guitarist will use just about anything! I bet in the studio Maiden use lots of different amps and guitars you do not see them use in public.

I really like Dave's custom Strats! They must be out of the Fender Custom shop as they do not offer a model like that stock.... And some of those strats the other guys use are cool.... Like the old beat up Black one JG has used since he was in Ian Gillan's band
