El Dunco

Sock Supplier to RHCP
I plan on using it with my BACKUP solid state amp... I have narrowed it down to this list (see poll)

I play high gain thrash metal

Any other recommendations would be helpful.

Re: Distortion pedals

since you're in australia, check out the MI Audio tube zone or crunchbox

Re: Distortion pedal

Rocktron Silver Dragon. The tube in it give it a more ballsy sound when used with SS amps and the gain tones it's capable off rule.

Re: Distortion pedal

I would also like to add that I want a pedal that will give alot of extra colour. The amp I'm using is rather sterile sounding but the cleans are ok so I want a pedal that has it's own tone rather than adding to existing tone or "bringing out" the amps tone.

I have thought about the Silver Dragon, Dime Distortion, Metal Muff Nano Pocket and the Krank Distortus Maximus

Re: Distortion pedal

Get the Death Metal pedal and you will sound like the person with the LAMEST tone on earth.

Metal Muffs are cool, I wanna get one of those...so if you wanna seem cooler than me, get one first and tell me how you like it.

Otherwise it's the same old response...try 'em out, see if they do it for ya. Seems like all those hi-gain distortion stompboxes are eventually replaced with big tube amps and over drive pedals eventually.

My main amp is using it's own distortion with an OD... this is for my backup amp.

Re: Distortion pedal

The Metalcore can get some pretty cool 5150 type sounds provided you dig having your mids scooped.

Re: Distortion pedal

The Metal Muff is a pretty **** cool pedal.. some of the tightest distortion I've heard out of a pedal.

Also.. Visual sound Jekyll and Hyde.. It's been a while since I played one, but I distinctly remember sounding very metal through a Blues Jr and a Telecaster.. it was kind of weird getting such a heavy tone from it.. one side is like a warm, souped up DS-1, and the other is a TS-808 clone.. pretty cool.

I am NOT into hi-gain stuff, and even * I *
am getting a MetalMuff next week, because that thing sounds sooo good for the rare meatl moments in my guitar playing time that i just need to get one !!!

MetalMuff all the way !

My 2cents !
;)

Re: Distortion pedal

The Boss Mega Distortion sounds awesome with solid state and tube amps. It gives such a cool range of overdrive and distortion tones, and has a great 2-knob EQ section. Unlike many heavy distortion pedals out there, the MD-2 can be tamed and made to sound classy.
