Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't boosting the gain of the signal going into the poweramp shorten your tube life?

It seems like it would. Usually, the electronic dynamics of gain based pedals are a little different from modulation pedals, for example. I don't know the exact difference, but I think some tweaking of the knobs can help preserve the life of the tubes.
