Distortion with bias control

I'm looking for a "gated fuzz" type of sound, but really mainly just a pedal that gates. Thus i would be grateful if you could mention any distortion pedal that has this bias control knob, preferably on its exterior. Also if you know a noise gate type pedal which can be used "for effect", that's cool too. I wouldn't know because the youtube demos are all boring. The important thing here is the drastic gate, not necessarily the distortion.

replace the resistors in the bias circuit with potentiometers?

To clarify, do you want gated fuzz like the Fuzz Factory or heavily gated distortion like in Industrial music?

I want the fizzle and crack effect. Checked out fuzz factory, seems good but too expensive.

Erupter is cheaper and looks very cool. Maybe not gated enough.

Sounds cool. I'm reading up on electronics but i'm nowhere near the level of proficiency required.

EDIT: I guess what i need is what you describe, in a stand-alone stomp box.

You can find a Vexter Fuzz Factory used for about $99 now. Also checkout the DOD Carcosa Fuzz.
