Diving into lutherie!

Well, the new strat had a back bow starting around the 3rd or 4th fret. It wasn't bad enough to really effect the playability that much, but it did cause a little buzz in the first couple frets sometimes. So, I did what any DIY addict would do, I fixed that dern thing myself!

Add some slow, slow heat, and time. Shim where the problem spots are to cause it to bend where you want it to. Then after some hours of warmth around 140F or so, let it cool to room temp slowly. Release pressure, and you are back in bidness! (assuming everything went well) Now this thing plays like BUTTAH!!!

How did you apply warmth?

I think I might need to do something similar to my old '62RI neck cuz it's at the max adjustment range of the truss rod nut but isn't straight for some odd reason.

Re: Diving into lutherie!

CTN, there is a couple things you can do. You can add a washer to your truss rod under the nut, or what I did was use a heating pad. It's slow, diffuse heat that shouldn't damage finishes. I plan on building a box for this with a better heater and thermal control system.
