Jeff Beck, Gary Moore, Ritchie Sambora, and many others. Just because they're commonplace doesn't make them bad amps at all. There's a few Marshalls that have a richer tone, but DSL's are far from the bottom of the heap.
I see people buying new generic high gain amps, when they'd be better off buying older DSL's off Craigslist at bargain prices.

Not sure I would call it cheaper, less expensive might be a better term. Joe Bonamassa uses two live also.

I think the question is whether anyone is using the newer, cheaper, made in China and redesigned JCM 2000 compared to the original made in Britain JCM 2000's.
IMO the newer MIC ones are improved, particularly the dsl40- but many artists use and still use the original English made ones

The Chinese one's do not bare the JCM badge.

Got my English DSL 2000 for $650 with a 900 cab on CL. I freaking love the thing. Great cleans and more than enough gain.

I don't know. But I also don't know why it would be hard to find someone who does. My JCM2000 TSL122 was, to me, the best sounding Marshall model I'd ever played outside of a real plexi...but the 2000 was faaaaar more versatile than any other Marshall I've played. It was the only Marshall I've ever played that didn't have to be cranked to sound great. Plexis kill for THAT TONE, but they don't have a huge tonal range without outside tinkering of e.q. and gain. 2000's have a wide tonal palette available without having to rely on outside tinkering to control of your tone. I have no idea why people give the 2000's ****. I've extensively played all the generations of Marshall except the 800 (never had one myself, and never had a friend who had one). The 2000's hold their own, and then some, IMO. If I had to have a Marshall as my only amp, it's what I'd use.
That said, I find the TSL to be THE amp of the JCM-2000 line. The DSL isn't nearly as good of an amp IMO, because it's much more limited tonally than the TSL.

Buddy of mine saw him live recently - he had Satriani model JVM heads. PG profiled his rig in 2015 and it had a Kemper and a Marshall 9200 power amp. At some point in 2014 he had JCM800s
I never really took much interest in the DSLs. They just didn't thrill me. That being said, I LOVE my JVM 100w head. It sounds perfect for what I like to hear, it gets a lot of tones, it feels fun to play, and it's awesome in a band context. Very controllable for a 100w head.

And I find the DSL to SMOKE the TSL. More versatile on paper, yes, but in my opinion way less usable tones, I found it to be too buzzy and grainy. Different strokes I suppose!

In my experience, TSL100 are the sound of sanding paper. Really hard to get anything resembling creamy or smooth from them.
